depends how hot the water was. All Mk 3 thermostats are the same, as are the temperature gauge senders. The rubber seals are the same too. The only difference between the SPi and MPi models is the thermostat housing.

No, GSF ones are not as good quality. They work at a different temperature to the genuine ones, not something I recommend.

Storage ideas sound fine. ECU will be fine with no power. Maybe a bit of WD40 down the bores to stop moisture, although frost do a special moisture absorbtion kit that goes in place of the plugs. Keep the interior clean, dry and moisture free. Get some silica gel sachets or something as moisture mak...

Hi

One of the best known gearbox rebuilders for polo's, especially G40's is JP Race at silverstone. I know it's not it sheffield, but I know they only specialise in gearboxes and they have done loads of polo's.

The 1.3 CL and GT heads are the same, it's the pistons which are different. There are various differences on the bottom end. The wiring is different for the injection system.

The bolt turns anti-clockwise as you would expect, but it's extremely tight. You need to stop the crank turning by wedging a block of wood against it inside the block. A long breaker bar is also needed.

A new bolt should be used when re-assembling.

Not an easy job, thats for sure. Speak to the few Mk 4/5 ownders that have had it done and they will tell you costs. I'm guessing a few grand to do the conversion plus the engine and uprated chassis components.

They are a taller engine so there may be clearance problems with the sump.
