Hmm its strange. I've spent about £500 trying to get mine sorted at a VW specialist. Mine gives cam speed sensor warning and something else. The Garage told me the VVT actuator was not being switched on by the ECU. They ran a line from the VVT to a switch and manually switched the VVT on - this mak...

I was considering getting my ECU remapped to solve that issue. In my situation the ECU throws up errors for cam speed sensor and position sensor even after I replaced those sensors. So perhaps the chip wouldn't overcome that? Where is the MAF located? Does anyone here know what other things apart fr...

VVT stands for Variable Valve Timming. There is an actuator that opens at solenoid when you get to around 3000 rpm (I think it might also be linked if you have your foot flat on the floor too). When the actuator is activated it lets oil pressure from the engine advance the cams. This creates an incr...

I had the EXACT same problem with mine. Really gutless at lower revs, car didn't pick up any sort of pace untill it hit 4500rpm Got most of the sensors replaced too. The solution for me (albiet a bit of a bodge) was to ground the VVT actuator, this means that the VVT is on constantly. Instead of fro...

Could be limp mode, the engine will turn off the VVT in that case, so it will run slower.

Get it hooked up to diagnostic, could be one of your sensors causing probs.

I'd say don't go for it. I bought my car in 2005 from the dealers when it was comming up to 4 years old and had 1 year warrenty. The dealers tried to get out of every repair they should have covered for, and that warrenty is more comprehensive than the one you are being offered. If you do choose to ...

A long time ago I worked in a mechanics garage, changed the oil for the gearbox and the engine, and forgot to remove the container which had about 15 litres of oil when I lowered the ramps. The result was 3 gallons of oil spilling all over the place  I never lived it down, untill another bloke...

mk5coz: No probs, is the gromit near the pollen filter? I'll try get you a pic, but the VVT actuator is situated to the left of the number 1 HT lead, its between the HT lead and the timming belt. Once you take the plastic engine cover off you will see it straight away. tegwin: Yep the GTi has VVT, i...

Engine 25bhp short of power

As some of you may know I had problems with my engine being 25bhp low on power. Over the past year or two it has cost me an absolute fortune to find the cause of the problem. Turns out the VVT actuator was not being activated for some reason. To rectify the problem the garage shorted the acutator ma...

For the most part I like having such a rare car but a few things bug me; I'm concerned about the availabiltiy of parts in years to come and I wonder how many were sold throughout the rest of the world. Those figures in the thread linked above say they were production figures, I find this hard to bel...

My rear wiper also does this. I found that its pretty useless anyways, just like the washer that always pops off and leaks into my carpet.
