CAMBELT
In relation to Deadcat's broken cambelt thread I though I'd just ask..... Mine has 85000 on the clock and I don't have any history of when the last belt was changed. I figure it can't have possibly done 85000 on one belt, so it was probably changed at taround the 40-50000 mark and will go up to abou...

Yeah I only put the flushing oil in cos I bought the car recently and I can't be totally sure when the last oil change was - agreed though it isn't really needed if the oil changes have been done regularly. Better to be nice to it and spend another seven quid I thought than take the blokes word for ...

what seems to work fairly well is Autoglym Super Resin Polish followed by Autoglym extra gloss protection afterwards, if you want to be indulgent. Funny, I rairly hear people talk about the extra gloss protection, I used it today and it seems quite good, a bit runny though..... but it buffed off rea...

Torque wrench question
Hello. If you torque a nut to a certain setting, if you are unsure whether the wrench "clicked" or if you want to be doubly sure can you re tighten the nut on the same setting or will it give an inaccurate torque the second time?
If you see what I mean.....

It seemed to be an extremely thin oil that would probably be inadvisable to run the engine on properly, but you drain the old oil out, refill with the thin flushing oil and run for five minutes then drain that out, then do the oil change to the Synta. Effectively changing the oil twice but it's wort...

I think in the Haynes manual to check for head flatness it says lay a steel ruler along it not flat but on it's side and check by sliding a very small feeler gauge underneath the ruler - if you can get it through then the gap is too big and the head needs skimming. Checking this at all points where ...

lol. Doh!!! must have been thinking of some other completely random car there for a moment. I apologise - 1042 ONLY JOKING 1043. Hmmm.... Synta seems to be good for most things it seems. I got the last one from GSF - only 11 or 12 quid including VAT I think - I'm also going to pop some engine flushi...

Oil change
Hello. What oil do you lot recommend for a good oil change on a '92 1058 single point injection? It's on about 90,000 and in good condition. On my other car which is a GTI scirocco I put flushing oil in for five minutes, drained, then put Synta Silver semi synthetic in it, which it really seems to l...
