You really need to get the fault code read to have an idea of the problem.
Its speculation as to what it could be but might be EGR valve, or emissions related.

A good tip is to fill an old sock with cat litter and put it under each of the front seats.
Another is to switch off the air con a couple of minutes before your journey ends and direct the vents to your feet.
Check that the door seals at the top of the door are not ringing wet.
