Re: I've stopped servicing my car at the authorized service center - here's why

The other manufacturers take the same stance. My mate has a 2019 Civic R-Type. It uses almost a litre of oil every 1000 miles. Honda won't do a thing unless it uses 1.5l every 1000 miles. I'd consider use of 1l of oil between services to be abnormal. Are we taking into consideration the type of oil...

Re: GTI+ MPG after 2 years - 5000 mile / 25mpg

Wonderful for the environment these things, aren't they, that they need people to have a needless blast to clear them..... Thank goodness future cars won't have any need for this utter nonsense. Yes, my EVs leave all the CO2 at the power station. NIMBY. We're considering particulates ...

Re: GTI+ Lease ending - Buy or hand back?

Hi Stuart, I did look at PCP at the time (around April 2019) and the prices were top whack then (+£100pm vs leasing). Plus I had a previous lease car with an end date looming. Never really looked into PCP, so you are able to sell within the PCP period? If correct, that does sound more interesting, ...

Re: Polo GTI+ owner - downsize to UP GTI vs upsize to Golf GTI

The UP GTI isn't worthy of the badge, should've had at least 150ps. The Lupo GTI from 20 years ago had 140ps. The Up feels faster than it is because you feel like you're in danger of tipping it over if you fling it around. Apart from the seats and steering wheel, there's nothing GTI about it. Just l...

Re: Warm air from vents

Agree. The first thing I do when I get a new / different car is to turn the A/C on. It then never gets turned off during my ownership of that car. Same. TBH I think more manufacturers need to make the default 'on' and you have to push a button to ask it go off. Renault do this, for one. The aircon ...

Re: Brand new Polo, Steering is offset

Doubtful it will rectify itself. The steering linkage has been set up incorrectly (adjustment well towards one extreme or the other rather than centre), or steering wheel placement off by a spline or 2. Used to happen with MK5 Golfs all the time, and never rectified itself always needed adjustment b...

Re: Is the 12v battery covered under VWs 3 year warranty?

Seems a very short lifespan for a battery, they should last a damned sight longer than that. Maybe more investigation needed, maybe the battery is fine but it's not getting enough charge from the alternator. So you'd have the same issue with a new one too. I think Covid inactivity has wrecked many ...

Re: I've stopped servicing my car at the authorized service center - here's why

[ Whether VAG have fixed this issue or not, god knows. I was just pointing out that, historically, they don't give a damn and your oil consumption has to be horrific before they will do anything. The other manufacturers take the same stance. My mate has a 2019 Civic R-Type. It uses almost a litre o...

Re: I've stopped servicing my car at the authorized service center - here's why

With regard to oil consumption VAG don't give a damn. We had a fleet of 2.0tdi engine cars at work, the best one used a litre per 4500 miles The worst one used a litre every 1800 miles. It got so bad we bought a 205L drum of miller oil to the right spec so the drivers could just top up from there u...

Re: How do you know the current state of your GPF?

That's a possible then with the Think100 OBD2.. I just don't know what to look for on the list.. there are so many acronyms.. only recently discovered that ECT was Engine Coolant Temp! Can you recall what the soot levels were listed under perhaps? Thanks again OBD11 is app based and will have a tot...

Re: How do you know the current state of your GPF?

Never tried it on the Polo GTI+, but with my OBD11, I could see current.load of soot, how much (theoretical) incombustible ash there was, how long from last regen and to next regen, and a load of other parameters.

Re: Is the 12v battery covered under VWs 3 year warranty?

I’ve had the Polo for 2 years 5 months so far and lately the battery seems to be getting weaker. This morning it struggled to start, and over the last few weeks I've noticed that leaving the ignition on and engine off for only 5 minutes causes the battery to struggle starting the car. Is the batter...

Re: GTi gone (woohoo!)

Shouldn't be any insurance issues, the system is still there. It just remembers to stay off when you switch it off. It switches on in the same 3 press sequence as everyone else switches off. In the menus it looks the same. Liking that. Maybe an ID4/Enyaq could still be on the cards with that annoya...

Re: GTi gone (woohoo!)

The eGolf (had one as a courtesy car) drives ike an absolute dog vs the ID3 - FWD makes the front wheels spin up easily, the ride is wallowy and you can really tell that the weight distribution is well off. That's coming from someone who likes Golfs a lot! Just highlights what a great job they did ...

Re: GTi gone (woohoo!)

I'd recommend a test drive of the ID3 over the roads you regularly use. I only had a very basic 'round the block' run in one out of curiosity, but I watched one ID3 v Leaf video the other night and the guy was honestly doing his nut at the 'lane assist' thing in the ID3. Saying it was very intrusiv...
