Re: ATF auto transmission fluid change
I used the measure and fill technique, and put in 300ml or so more than came out. (2.4L out 2.7L in) Febi brand also I really didn’t want to faff about getting the car level and getting diagnostics connected. Didn’t drop the pan either, just a simple quick drain and fill. That’s remarkable mpg for a...

Re: ATF auto transmission fluid change
Nice to see you’re still updating the thread.
Sister’s Polo is long gone, but I have a mate with the same gearbox who wants it serviced. Very useful to look back at these posts in preparation.

Re: ATF auto transmission fluid change
The polo started slamming gears, pretty much exhibiting the same symptoms you had. The leak from the pan didn't look too bad, but apparently it let enough fluid out over time. Got the job done today, got 3.3 ish L out, just like you and put back in 4.2L. I didn't set the level with the procedure sin...

Re: Shock absorbers
Usually OEM for german car manufacturers is Sachs.
Can’t go wrong with them. I’ve also had good luck with Bilstein B4s on other cars. They’re usually a bit firmer than stock though

Re: ATF auto transmission fluid change
Sounds good, I’ll try that trick to get the filler seal off without breaking, if not I’ll see if I can seal it back up, maybe stick a hot screwdriver against the split end to hold it together. I find in general it’s better to fill at a slightly lower temp than higher, generally the gearboxes can tak...

Re: ATF auto transmission fluid change
I once had low fluid on my bmw gearbox and again problems would only really come after driving a while when the atf heats up. Which is weird because the fluid should expand as it heats up? What happens to damage the fill plug when you remove it? It uses sealant like your gearbox, and I have bunch of...

Re: VW POLO 9N3 Lower Arm Bushes
Original ones don't last very long. Meyle HD are more solid one which should last longer. There are very common issues of the bolt pulling the threads from the suspension brackets (called consoles), or breaking the bolt, so that's probably why the garage suggested to replace those also. I wouldn't s...

Re: ATF auto transmission fluid change
I have the strainer so might as well change it out. I have a 1.4 BKY, 2007 but with the old 4 speed GJG auto like you have. It's on a hair over 100k miles and I just got it a few weeks ago, I strongly believe in maintenance so I'm trying to change all belts, fluids, filters etc. just to have a clean...

Re: ATF auto transmission fluid change
Hey littlepolo. Thanks for the writeup, I’ve been meaning to do an atf change on my sisters polo just as general maintenance, and I couldn’t find any information online, and the Haynes manual is pretty s**t for the gearbox. It’s good you got your low level sorted out, low level burns up the clutches...
