for about a week i have had a strange noise which seems to be coming from below the gearstick under acceleration. it is like a cheeping sound (?) like two pieces of metal rubbing together very fast. it doesnt do it when the car is completely cold nor when it has been running a while (say 1/2 hour). ...

one question i goots ask. if there is a kit then why did the vw garage try and sell me a full aerial. he knew exactly what i wanted.

i understood the red d and i on the polo meant it had the high pressure diesel. ie the pd bit which means pumpe duse (or something in german)

the seal around the aerial near where it meets the roof has perished. i rang vw today and they are £58 +vat +fitting. what a load of *(&%$

apparently you have to get the complete unit.

i get your points tho. getting a remote without an alarm might be a bad move. i will check out prices of alarms that activate the central locking as well.

i am trying to find out the best option. as you say there is no point in repairing the damaged lock. the car already has central locking so a remote system might be my best option.

done a bit of research and two companies so far do the upgrade
