Re: Signs of gearbox failure?
Its either sell it with a damaged box and get maybe £1200-1500 though or just scrap it which would be a real shame. Depends how much you like the car really, despite their value dropping heavily in the last couple of years its still a hell of a car for the money. Much better than any Renault, Peuge...

Re: Signs of gearbox failure?
The £1k was his rough estimate based on £600 for refurbed box £250 labour to get it out, put back in £125 if did clutch as well So yeah could get a cheaper box and not do clutch but still gonna be at least 500-600 notes all in to get it done. Trouble is I'm limited for choice over here in garages......

Re: Signs of gearbox failure?
I took it in to my local garage and took it for a drive with one of the mechanics. He agreed it was the gearbox but obviously couldn't give an estimate on how long it might last, only that gearboxes in these gtis are "rubbish" !! Same ones used all over the place and have a tendency to fai...

Re: Signs of gearbox failure?
Maybe it's just gearbox oil or clutch oil needs replacing? I don't want to take it to the garage if I can avoid it, but equally going away on holiday in a week and don't want it to break down...

Signs of gearbox failure?
Hi all Getting a bit worried about my 2000 gti. Just read the gearbox failure thread and now even more worried! In the last couple of month there's been this very unusual sound. Hard to describe. Had a similar thing on my previous jetta. Basically, when you're on engine breaking, coasting etc. There...

What's it worth?
Hi Thinking about selling up and trying to get an idea what it's worth. Autotrader isn't being much help. It's a 2001 Silver GTi. 40k miles. Everything is standard. Bodywork is very good, one or two minor things. BBS alloys are deteriorating. Interior is OK. MP3 head unit and sub. Well maintained, l...

Re: 6N2 GTI Electric windows one touch not working
Brilliant. Scraped off all the build-up of gunk on the connections and hey presto, working switches. Saved me £45 for new ones. Thanks!

Re: 6N2 GTI Electric windows one touch not working
Dismantled the switches yesterday. This is what I see. Turns out none of those little silver "pads" are connected to the PCB anymore... was wondering if I could resolder but in fact part of the circuit has corroded away, so not sure it would help even if I could. What do you reckon? Have a...

Re: 6N2 GTI Electric windows one touch not working
You can fix faulty switches...i did it the other day. Just have to split them, clean them up, then hot glue them back together happy days! Sounds doable - certainly got the tools. Might have a bash tomorrow... though I'm sure last time I popped the unit out it looked really really sealed... is ther...

Re: 6N2 GTI Electric windows one touch not working
There's a way of reprogramming the one-touch facility by holding the switch down for ten seconds etc. Not sure exactly what the process is but it's worth a search on the DIY guides etc. If you're gonna replace the switches see the "MK5" section of the forum, under the thread "HELP&qu...

Would be interested in exhaust system. Maybe a few other bits if suitable for a 6n2 GTi like airbag controller.
