Re: WIP: how to replace your alarm siren box back up battery
It was worth trying though - just one thing maybe a stupid thought, will these new batteries not need time to charge up before the fault can be erased? Sorry if you have given the batteries time to recharge - did you check that there is a supply getting through to this box to keep these back up batt...

Re: Heat issue
Even although I wrote that previous posting based on what I thought at the time, I now have trouble trying to see how switching on the chiller would pull the "wrong delivery temperature air" down as the cabin temperature will be getting monitored in the cabin, so if a temperature flap moto...

Re: Changing a headlight bulb
I think that doing this the first time is always going to be tricky, both from the fact that you have not done this before on that model of car and maybe even because these cars are assembled in a space that is a bit warmer than outside in UK is right now. My wife has a 6C Polo and prompted by someo...

Re: Heat issue
Griff74, my interpretation of the opening posting was that even with the cabin air temperature set lowish, and the AC (chiller) off, the air discharging into the cabin was too warm/hot even although the outside ambient was 10C or so - now if that is what is happening, a failed temperature control fl...

Re: Rear brakes sticking
I just bumped into a you tube video on sorting out the rear brakes on Polos, it seems this guys plan was to clamp off the rear brakes and remove the brake cylinder when replacing or removing everything - as it seems that this allows you to get everything out and over the hub without needing to pay f...

Re: Tight gearbox
Could be trouble with the clutch hydraulics, though I don't think that is something that happens much - but there can always be one!

Re: Rear window washer
It's hard to say without a live inspection, but I can give some tips :) Try calling the hotline at the service center or if it doesn’t help you to go to the repair station. Ha, not very likely, VW Group dealerships, at least in UK are not charities! So OP, now you need to open the hatch slightly an...

Maybe try another VW dealership before the warranty has run out.

Re: Rear brakes sticking
Car brakes need servicing every 2 or 3 years if you want them to remain working as well as possible, brake servicing is not part of VW Group normal service plans, so brake issues tend to occur more with VW Group cars that are still within the dealership servicing network. So, yes take the drums off,...

Re: DIY - Major service
Erwin, yes I created an account and bought a single session but just blundered in and started printing off “current flow” diagrams as it was for my daughter’s late 2009 Ibiza and the SEAT area was a bit basic and I could not find any way to download sections, so first printer ran out of ink then pap...

Re: Is there a better airbox for my 9n2
I’d doubt it, what you get out of that engine stock is as much as it will give, it was built for reliability, maybe try a tank or 2 of UL+ and see if that helps at all.

Re: Heated Door Mirrors
VW Group do seem to be a bit stubborn about the way the mirror heaters operate, I too came from having a VX Cav GSI 4X4 which has a very sensible system where, I think, you could only operate the mirror heaters if the (timed) rear window heater was on. Initially I owned a 2000 VW Passat 4Motion with...

Re: DIY - Major service
Yes that is the issue with the brakes on at least all VW Group dealer serviced cars, they do not take the wheels off at car service time, they just look and report, typically this ends up with them giving out a cautious "pads worn 80%" or "brakes binding slightly" both given with...

Re: Loss of power low mpg, after 20 miles of driving
To be honest, if that EGR valve assembly is choked or coked up it will only be because that engine has been left running far to rich for too long so that has messed up the EGR valve. In my (limited) experience of petrol engines with EGR valves, they should always run clean if the engine is running o...

Re: What would you change about your Polo?
That "feature" has also been commented on in the 6C Polo section, some people consider that it sounds a bit over worked so might fail a bit early in life!
