CROSSOVER MOD: How to De-Badge

De-Badge

Ok, so you don't want people knowing you've got a 1.2 under the bonnet :P , or just prefer the smooth look.
To remove the rear badges, just follow these simple steps.

Download the PDF file for offline reference and printing.

side strips

Post by Paintdeep »

Yeah this is a good way to debadge. You can use a piece of cardboard as an alternative to dental floss if you want.
Do you know if removing side strips on a mk4 is done in the same way?

Only guessing here as I haven't got a mk4 but I'd say they were stuck on in the same way....so you could use the same method. Not sure if it'll reveal holes though as on the mk6. Better off asking in the mk4 forum

MK5 (AKA 6N2, AKA 2000-2002)'s do have holes when you remove the rubbing strips.

If your's are not already painted, it would be a good idea to get them done as imho once painted they don't look too bad.

Not like the MK4

The 'VW' badge can be removed just as the other badges, but you'll see a big circular dent where it once was.

Its not a good idea to take the centre VW badge off unless you are willing to fill and paint it. I made this mistake.

Some more hints......
You could use boiling water if you dont happen to have a hair dryer, but this does take longer and.... I found out that if you do have like bits of the rubber/glue stuff you can use auto glym paint restorer and rub it alot, and the it comes up all shiny and good!! Hope this helps anyone....? :D

You'll need a metal plate welded on the inside of the boot skin, then it will need to be skimmed with filler until smooth, primed and sprayed.

Or just get a new badge and bang it in
