Yup, that's Perl Grau (Pearl Grey), which suited my Mk4 interior well. Are the Mk5 bits more cream coloured?

The roofliner only needed like half a centimeter cutting, the new frame dictates the size you'll need. Obviously, the inside of the new tin frame needs to be cleared. Better take out small bits at a time, can't really hit the Undo button on this one...

Yeah, lol at the undo comment!

I'll take it slow, and only cut a little bit at a time... Now where did I put that knife?!

Hi J-O

The actual light bit is still in Germany :(

Don't worry, I will update this post when I get it installed!

right well then i had a bash at this mod tonight and id firstly like to say that its NOT easy, there is a lot of fiddly bits and pieces and a lot of swearing.
rather than give everyone paragraph after paragraph of text to read ill show you the pics (please bear in mind that these are not the finished article but it got to midnigght and was 3 degrees so i called it a night)
ok well before you start you need a feed for the leds and illuminated buttons, on the 6n2 remove the light swich and tap into the blue and grey wire, then run it up the a pillar and to the dome light (this is the correct wire if you wist to tap into the dimmable circuit)
Image
here is the stock 6n2 item
Image
here is a slightly clearer version of the way the wires plug into the light
-left-white-new-illumination
then brown and white-door signal wire
then brown -earth
then red-live

Image
you can see the size difference here

Image
here i have marked what needs cutting, you also need to remove a lot of the black foam above the head liner

Image
some illumination pics with just the buttions and leds lit
Image
here the (uk) passenger map light is on
Image
both map lights
Image
the works
Image
here is the dreaded gap but please ber in mind im not finifhed so this may be gone soon
Image
and this is a photo i took of a piece of white paper under the leds to show the degree of illumination
ok please forgive the bad photos but i may be working on this tomorrow as well so there might be some more :d

Looking good guys.

It seems that the gap varies depending on the angle it's viewed.

Well this morning I've fitted my W8 Domelight...

I have a sunroof so it's not the same as yours...I have a plastic panel that needed to be cut....I've cutted 2 of the fixing clips...

once the light was fixed to the panel, I've change the plug to fit the new domelight plug...and now everything is fine...I onle have the same gap as polo2k but I don't mind

I've change the 2 red leds with blue ones 8) and the four lights were converted to 4 blues high intensity leds :D ....the illumination with the door is connected to a system design by a friend (www.madis.ch) to ligth the leds softly and to turn them of softly after 3 seconds...that's pretty cool :-D

I still have 16 leds to place under the dash and on my ice instal...

Finally, here's what it looks like at night:

the light that is connected with the doors:

a view of the W8 domelight with the red indicators and the 2 blues leds plug onto the headlight command:

and here a overall look of the counter and other devices....
Image

note that the middle part is painted in Blue RS...so that's why it is so blue on the picture...it's not only because of the leds
