Hi guys
Looking to buy a 6n2 Polo for my wife for a cheap learner car (she isn't getting her mitts on my car..), one I'm looking at is a 2001 on a Y plate, 1.4 60BHP petrol
Anything to look out for when buying or any serious issues to be wary of?
More than willing to do work on it If I know what I'm getting myself into
Thanks
Buyers guide?

Re: Buyers guide?
Not a massive amount to go wrong on these
main issue is the pedal box failing, which was fixed as a recall
Other things to make sure of is the temperature gauge works properly, theres no fault lights showing on the dash, check its had its cambelt and water pump changed at the appropriate intervals.
Theres a thread in the GTI section here. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=35521 most applies to the non GTI's too
Got a link to the car?

Re: Buyers guide?
As requested:
Polo
https://www.gumtree.com/p/volkswagen/Vo ... 1178119982
Also saw this Fabia
https://www.gumtree.com/p/skoda/Skoda-F ... 1177908231
Bargain basement as the wife is learning to drive and so if she sticks it in a ditch...I'm not going to cry over it too much.
Concern with the polo is 60BHP from a 1.4...seems....strangled...(then again my first car was a 90odd BHP 1.4 Pug 205, which thanks to being made of paper..had a decent turn of speed..) Tried an agila with a 1.0 and similar bhp and it was terrible...losing a race to an electric milk float would have been plausible in that...lol

Re: Buyers guide?
The 6n2 looks quite tidy. Needs a good check over to make sure it would pass a new MOT - would try get them to put it through ideally

Re: Buyers guide?
dont think its going to happen for that price sadly and if it was 100 notes cheaper I'd have it in a heartbeat, but not at 265 when its got no mot, been sitting a while and history since it was sold in 2014 unclear...
Which means it could easily turn into a money pit and rapidly...

Re: Buyers guide?
Thinking about it lol
only hassle is i'd have to book an mot and drive it there as its out of mot and who i knew with a trailer / dolly, either no longer have them or have moved away
lol always the same, when you don't need one...everyone and their dog has one, when you do...no one is willing to lend or has just sold theres.
Closer to home, I'd just drive it via the back roads and give it a good work over before taking it in for mot.
hrmmm decisions decisions lol...
Thanks

Re: Buyers guide?
Saw another locally, been sitting a few months, 1.0 litre 5 door, told bodywork is a bit tatty, albeit whole (no skin off my nose)
Brakes need stripped (again unsurprising due to it sitting), but seller also mentioned that the clutch is a bit stiff - Does the cable just need lubricated / adjusted? (I hope its not the clutch itself...done clutches before on transverse cars and its "fun" at the best of times...)
Plus point...its cheap...really cheap.

Re: Buyers guide?
Clutch release bearing is probably the reason it's stiff. The cable doesn't normally cause it
Clutch isn't overly difficult on these though
