"Idle speed control to high" Check engine fault

Post by nico88uk »

Hello everyone, I own a 2000 1.4 MPI polo and it has been in the family since new lol.

Approx 1 week ago the check engine fault light came on, I took the car to kwik fit to get the code read and it came back has "Idle speed control to high" my mpg has reduced from 44mpg to about 30mpg.

I had a listen under the bonnet today and there was a very loud hissing, I had a look though all the hoses and found one quite badly damaged. I'm not sure what this hose is for but is close to the throttle body. I tried ducktaping but there's still air leaking I've taken pictures:

Do you think this could be what's caused the fault and poor mpg?

If so where could I buy a replacement hose? Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers

Nick

Yes you'll need to replace that. It's on the purge valve which controls emissions

I'll see if I can dig the part number out for you

Thanks for quick reply Alex,

I pulled the hose off and the number was: 030103493 BQ? but no idea where I would order it from.

My plan was to order a length of hose and cut to size I measured it at 13.5cm, do you think that would work?

Cheers

You'll be able to order that from your local VW dealer. Cost is around £15 and it's still available.

It's a special formed hose so ideally you'll want to use an original part
