Put a Golf-engine in a Polo Mk4

Post by MiWi »

Hello!

Have anyone here put a Golf GTI Mk3-engine (16v 2-liters with 150 hp) in a Polo Mk4?

Seat Ibiza Gti have that engine and the engine bay are the same as Polo Mk4 i belive...

Someone here who knows the truth?

I think the seat has a front and rear sub frame that the engine mounts on , where the polo does not, only has a rear sub frame.

It can surely do be done though. At what effort and cost I have no idea.

Hi all, i know it's a bit different, but i have an 04 Polo with basically a Golf engine in it.... The bottom end is a 1.8T block without the turbo and the head is a 20v Golf head.
It has mk4 Golf front hubs, bigger flanges on the box to run the bigger drive shafts. Brembo GT Tourismo big brake kit, again to fit a Golf. The car is 210bhp,
which is not bad for a normally aspirated engine.
I now have to come clean, it runs in the VW-Racing Cup, and when i sort it out, i will get some pics on here. By the way this doesnt have a sub frame, just three mounts, (solid, made special,
so as to lower the engine as well as take all the stress of racing). Plus it runs a 6 speed Golf/Lupo Gti box.
Thanks, Doug

whoops, some pics went of to one side, just scroll across, the pics with no front are current, as i get it ready for the last race of the year at Donington, Oct 10/11/12th.
Currently awaiting parts from the States to rebuild the 6 speed box, the one on the floor is a Ibiza Cupra box which went in but was found to be well of with the ratios due to the fact i run a 17" rim as apposed to the 13" the car ran on in South Africa, which is where we got it from.
I laugh now but that box with it's current gearing when i worked out the ratios the other day would of had a top speed of 174Mph, which is no doubt why i couldnt get past 3rd gear at Silverstone!!! hindsight is a wonderful thing.....

thanks, quite proud of that, did it on an X-Box game called Forza, where you can do your own paint job, so had to do it on a Golf, then took photo's of the telly and went and saw my graphics guy who turned it into this.
