new cylinder head

Post by RichardW »

Hi,

Came across this forum as I'm on the hunt for some advice after my mkIII polo ate its cambelt last week.

After fitting a new cambelt the car turns over (cam turns) and the engine is getting spark but doesn't fire. Reading up on this engine (its the 1.6glx) I've found that it is non interference which should mean the engine is ok but I'm doubting that as it appears to have no compression although it is pumping air out of the back box :|

Can anyone confirm if this engine (its a 96 1.6glx btw) is interference or not? And anyone had and solved this issue?

I'm thinking a new cylinder head is needed but seems a bit pointless to replace that if the whole engine is shot so the car may end up being broken.

Any advice is greatly recieved.

thanks for reading

Take out the plugs and place your finger over the plugholes one by one while cranking should give you a good idea of any compression/compression loss..
