New Head Bolts On Rebuild?

Post by Johnjourno »

Hey everyone,
My sisters cambelt snapped a week ago, so between work and the rain I have been working on it, head is off, all the valves are bent, bought all new valves, got a head gasket set, do I need new head bolts? Autodata says yes, but I thought I'd ask here first

The car is a Polo 6N 1.4 8V on a N plate

For £15 a set (retail - closer to a tenner trade!) you may as well fit them... Not worth jeopardising your rebuild for!

I have also heard conflicting information about this, but recently talked to a chap who has worked on Citroens or something (didn't really care - not relevant) ... They had bolts you could re-use once, then replace. I started to wonder if these may be the same in practice - hence the conflicting information... Either way... It's only a few quid.

Replaced the bolts, in the end its had all 8 valves replaced, all the gaskets and seals head gakset upwards, new head bolts, cambelt and alternator belt, runs better than it ever has, and I told her she has to get another 200k miles out of it now
