Is it illegal to have the front number plate in the windscreen e.g. cable tied to the passenger sun viser? thanks Al

Yes it must be on the furthest most point on your car, so front bumper.

i had mine in my window for months and drove past loads of cops, the back plate only gets photographed when speeding so i dont think its something they are too serious about, but safe then sorry

Well, for MOT purposes it has to be on the front most position (as Tim said).
