Double DIN head unit in 6N2 2000 Polo

I have recently purchased this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120884668292? ... 500wt_1413 on eBay and tried to fit today. Its a double DIN head unit.

Everything works fine except i cant get it to fit my dash. Its ok HxW but it wond slide all the way in! It hangs out by about an inch. I understand this is due to the cables obstructing it at the back but before i start demolishing the original plastics behind there i wanted to seek some advice... so here i am!

Any help is appreciated and i can upload pics if necessary.
