Car-net App Connect / LED Rear upgrade

Post by Dink »

so i had a phone call from vw today (after i sent an e-mail) and they said that app-connect is only a factory option

but if they have enough interest in a retro fit option they will look into it

i then also mentioned to them that LED rear lights would of been good.

so basically if anyone would like one or both of these options/upgrades send an e-mail off to vw via their website just asking and it may happen (or it could be just vw feeding me BS lol)

also if anyone else is a member of other polo forums spread the word as the more people the more chance of it happening

Thanks. I tweeted @vwukhelp a few days ago and they also stated App-Connect was currently only a factory fit option. Will send an email in now as well.

I'm also very interested in Car-net App Connect. What is the email address to write to?

Done. I expect the same answer...

I really don't understand why this must be a factory fit option as it seems to be just a software upgrade is needed

OK - they actually rang me to say that I'd got the MIB1 Head Unit fitted in my pre-week22 GTI while the MIB2 unit was being fitted after the end of May. I told them that everything I'd read on the VW website had suggested that this unit would be able to run Car Play and I'd been told that it was ready to do so but they were just sorting out the agreement with Apple. I also said I was also under the distinct impression (which I was) that the head unit in the GTI was the new MIB2 unit otherwise I'd have waited a few months on the order. They've gone away to make enquiries...

Otherwise they said end of year/start of next year for a possible factory upgrade option to enable CarPlay.

I wasn't told that my head unit wasn't compatible

I've got mirror link but that is useless and want Android Auto couldn't give a rats arse about any apple stuff.

I think that's not correct. I believe the GTI Head Unit is the MIB2 head unit as it looks different to the MIB1 head unit. I hope VW are going to ring me back today to clarify. IF it is the MIB2 head unit then hopefully it's just a software upgrade - unless we've got a peculiar unit which is missing a hardware component.

Anyway, if it's App-connect compatible it should do all 3 phone operating systems.

Hey guys, Penarth Blues & DInk

Any update on this matter with the App Connect?

I'm planning to order a GTI, and people in my country also dont have App Connect at all. Really sound like a software update/upgrade and not hardware, but I'd be happy to know for sure.

Sorry Eli - still none the wiser at the moment. I went into the Parts Dept in my local dealer last week to get a new wing mirror glass for my old Polo and they'd never heard of such an upgrade.

This however means nothing with VW UK and I think it is only perhaps by contacting VW Germany that we'll get any clarification.
