Upgrade H7 Headlights to BiXenons in Polo GT TSi

Post by graaja »

Hi,

I am from India and I have a 2015 manufactured Polo GT TSi. The car came with H7 halogen headlights. I would like to upgrade to OEM Bi Xenons with AFS. From various threads in this forum, I understand this will involve the following upgrades.

1. Upgrade the BCM from "6R0 937 087" to "7H0 937 089" or above
2. Upgrade the headlight wiring to enable BCM to control the headlights
3. Install OEM BiXenons
4. Install AFS modules and wire the AFS to BCM and headlights

I request experts to guide me with the following.

1. Part number of the BCM that I need to upgrade
2. Required wiring looms.
3. Part number of BiXenons. I found part number 044453 and 044454 Valeo BiXenons in eBay. Are these the correct ones?

Once I have the BiXenons installed, I think I should be able to follow the below thread to get the AFS installed.

Thanks in advance for all the pointers.

Below is the picture of the fuse box.

Re: Upgrade H7 Headlights to BiXenons in Polo GT TSi

Post by ciclo »

With 7H0 BCM could have incompatibilities with other units for YOUR 6R (2016 MY)
According to ETKA and VCDS Autoscan the BCM would be: 7E0937090B 0CS (8IT), also would work for 8IG due our experience.

8IT = Led Headlights
8IG = Bixenon Headlights

IMHO it's better install LED Headlights (8IT) for your 6R, the cost would be similar. With 8IT YOU would avoid having to change the fog lamps wiring installation.

Re: Upgrade H7 Headlights to BiXenons in Polo GT TSi

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

I had first compared LED and Bi-Xenon headlights and decided to go for Bi-Xenons due to features like automatic leveling and cornering functions and also the Bi-Xenons would provide better lighting under rainy conditions due to the 4300K warm lighting. I thought LED light would be on the whiter side and will not have good lighting under rainy conditions.

I have a few questions on your BCM suggestion.

1. What is 8IT and 8IG. Are they variations of the BCM that support BiXenon lights vs. LED lights?
2. Do the LED headlights come with automatic level control, and cornering functions? I could not find much information on LED headlights.
3. I saw in some article that the BCM also has to support the radio frequency used by the keyfob. In my keyfob, the frequency is mentioned as 434MHz. Will the 7E0 937 090 B support this frequency?
4. In case I want to go with Bi-Xenons instead of LEDs, will this BCM completely support BiXenon as well? Or would you recommend a different BCM which is specific to Bi-Xenon control?
5. Can you point me to a web store where I can order this BCM? I searched eBay, but could not find the 7E0 937 090 B.

Please pardon me for the long list of questions.

ETKA, PR-codes, etc... viewtopic.php?f=10&t=42713#p466570
I am sure that when you know how to handle ETKA with the PR-codes you do not need to ask so many questions.

Web store? I don't know, but it is impossible that you can not find the parts you need online.

I am not able to see the image of your fuse box in your first post.

Thanks for the links to ETKA. I will search online for the BCM.

I have edited my first post with the link to the picture of the fusebox. I hope you are able to access the picture.

Sincere apologies once again for all the newbie questions

You do not have to apologize, they are not newbie questions.

The same images you can see here are necessary to get help in the best way possible.
I have not counted the immense amount of different 6R that are manufactured in this world, but I can assure you that it is difficult to find two equals.

You can show us pictures of your 6R if you want... More info = better help.

Can you tell me where I can find the relays and the wire dimmer connector, so that I can get these pictures as well?

Yes, the relay carrier image is required, and also from dimmer connector.

Recently and with the same purpose I have studied a VW Polo whose fuse box is like yours.

Here are the images of the dimmer connector. In my car, actually there is no dimmer, only the manual headlight range adjuster.

However, I have not been successful in opening the trim below the steering column to expose the relay carrier :?

Found two screws at the bottom of the trim which I removed. Tried to pull the trim, but the trim was stuck too strong. I forced the trim open and I think I broke a few locks, but still could not get the trim completely out. Not sure if there are any other screws that I missed! Could you please guide me to some instructions on how to open the trim below the steering column?

Managed to take the picture of the relay carrier :D Took the picture through the headlight switch opening.

Image

Before this, I was actually trying to open the trim pointed by the read arrow, and that is what proved to be too difficult. I think I unnecessarily broke some locks in this trim

Do not worry, we fall to rise again. The dashboard is only one piece and can not be disassembled by parts.
Try to repair those broken locks with accurate to avoid unnecessary noises. There are very effective glues for plastics, I use the VW glue for glass (bonded forever). Here you can see the reference D 180 KD2 A1 if you want to use it.

It's the best image I've ever seen from a 6R RHD Relay Carrier.

I'll study the electrical installation, be patient please. Meanwhile you can show us an image of the radio area and current headlights.

Having to request pictures is the part of these processes I hate most. I have already commented that there are many differences between Polos 6R that are sold in different markets, it also depends on the years of manufacture and specs of each one.
I do not have a search engine for parts with the VIN.

Sure I will check out the glue and get the loose trim tightened again. And thank you for your kind words about the picture :)

Here are the pictures of the radio area and the headlight.

This is the original radio that my car had (I have now changed this to DS611 from Audiosources. This picture was taken during the HU swap)

There are two ISO connectors for the radio connection. These have the CAN signals as well.
Image

The OE H7 halogen headlights
Image

The headlight switch. There is a manual headlight range control. But no dashboard backlight dimmer control.

The 10 pin connector on the headlight

The 10 pin connector on the wiring

Please let me know if you need any other pictures from the car. I will be very glad to post them.

Edit: There was an image added to the post which I had not added. Removing the image

Maybe more information about your new HU DS611. PDF installation guide, or the price would be interesting. TEST
