It does show the Polo is a fairly well built car with an upmarket feel (for a supermini) and not something cheap and rattly that needs all the extras to get sales !
There must be a lot of people who would like a no frills car and this is one of those.
Pity you can't add the turbo without having to buy all the other extras which does bump up the price.

It might not have an arm rest or tech, but it's absolute luxury compared to some of my early cars. My first car didn't even have sun visors, a heated rear window or a basic radio!

Luxury?

On the surface, people think my 2016 R-Line is luxury until they look around and notice
- No heated seats
- No heated windscreen
- No electric foldable mirrors
- No sat nav
- No Android Auto
- No climate control
- No reversing camera

But it does have an arm rest which does nothing but get in the way.

For close to £20k, it's shocking. A £10k Dacia can have a reversing camera for £200.

Yet the nasty Corsa E I drove for a week had almost all of these

Skymeta, luxury is all relative and depends what you're comparing it to. As I said, I was making the comparison with my first car, which was an original Mini - not the BMW version. It didn't have much of the equipment we all take for granted that you would now find in pretty much all entry level cars like the Polo in the video; the type of car that some drivers will now have as a first car.

My Mini had;
- No radio
- No heated rear window
- No sun visors
- No door mirrors; only an interior rear view mirror
- No power steering
- No electric windscreen washers. The washers were operated by pumping a plunger button on the dashboard
- No central locking (but then, neither did pretty much all other cars on the road at the time)
- No glove box
- Manual window winders
- Vinyl / plastic seats with fixed back rests; no recline mechanism
- drum brakes all round

Just goes to show how things have moved on, thankfully!

Manual windows winders?
Not 'an original mini' they were sliding windows!
I had a 1961 car.

My first car was 1953, Ford Prefect. 1100 Cc side valve, 3 speed gearbox - mine jumped out of 2nd gear, had to hold the gearstick in! Drum brakes operated by rods. 6 volt electrics, vaccuum driven wipers. Never steered straight! I did ~ 12,000 miles in 6 months. Changed engine & gearbox once and back axle twice.
Those were the days petrol 4 gallons for £1.0

No, unfortunately not one of the early 1960's BMC Minis, but a 1970 model, by which time BMC had become British Leyland and the Mini had been 'improved' and the sliding windows were replaced with manual wind up / down versions :)

Bit late to the game on this post... My Polo SEL (2010) is my first car. I went to the dealership to view a 2000 (59) model, which I hated. So basic, absolutely nothing to it.

Just in at the dealership sat what is now my pride and joy. Here's the run down...

-Heated front seats
-DAB Radio/Satnav/Aux,CD,MDI
-Climate Control AC
-Headlamp washers
-Underseat drawers
-Centre arm rest
-Electric windows all round

Everything above wasn't on the original one I went to look at, and I have to say without these extras I probably wouldn't have brought one!

Oh, under seat drawers, now that is something that I keep meaning to buy for my wife's Polo, she will not notice them or use them if she does, but I like to add "essentials"! I've had the list of parts needed ready for a long time, but not placed the order yet - Mother's Day treat?
