Rcd 510

Post by Asamoli »

I've found this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/33156106 ... 1421297127

Which I suspect is fake. Is there any way to tell which ones are genuine and which are Chinese copy's?

This is the genuine one from VW's website showing the buttons either side of the display as Radio, Media, Phone (left hand side) and TIM, TP, Setup (right hand side);

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/acce ... /1#details

You can see the buttons either side of the display on the one for sale on eBay are different, which suggests it's not a genuine one.

I had the genuine RCD510 in my mk6 Golf GTD (spec'd when I ordered the car) and it was like the one on the VW website. It didn't have a mute button; mute was operated from the steering wheel buttons. The eBay one does have a mute button to the right of the display.

It is OEM. :)

Volkswagen has many factories around the world and several RCD510 models.

So it's definitely a genuine module reguardless of the button layout?

I've been looking into some RCD510's too. What's the best way to tell if they're OEM or not?

If the eBay one is genuine and wasn't made for the UK market, then some of the functions available on factory fit RCD510 units in cars manufactured for the UK market may not be present.

I've just noticed that the instruction manual in the photo on eBay shows 'Shanghai Volkswagen' on the front. Agree with ciclo, there are likely to be different versions of RCD510 for different markets around the world. So if this is a genuine unit, then it looks as if it was manufactured for VW for the Chinese market.

I had a feeling that may be the case once I had a second look, anyone care to speculate what features may be missing?

It will not have traffic information (no TP button) and may not have radio digital service (RDS) in which case no text from stations. Not certain about the last bit though.

I have one of those installed in my 2013 model and its been all good since i bought it. Dont remember how long ago though but probably almost 6 months now. It looks way better then the old rcd210 and doesnt feel as its cheaply made or anything, just really nice click to the buttons and the scrolling to raise the volume. So if you are debating on buying it or not i would say go for it if you like it.
