yes that does make a big difference. normally, the speakers are directly powered by the speaker output of your RNS.

in case of a VW soundsystem (fender, dynaudio), the speaker outputs are transformed to 'line out' connections by a coding change.
this dims the sound, flattens it too. it feels like listening to it with your fingers in your ears.

it's easily solved with a VCDS system. you have to recode the settings, set byte 1 of your RNS coding to '00 no sound system'.

It's an RCD not rns would that make a difference and it came from a golf r so i would assume with it being a r it had updated speaker. Mine an sel polo so i think it just has 6 standard speaker?

yes there is a good chance that it came from a golf with a sound system.
the polo never has a soundsystem, unless retrofitted (for example, i have a dynaudio myself).
the VW Helix plug and play soundsystem doesn't require a coding change.

Yep, cannot guarantee that this is the issue, but this is my best educated guess.

After having a better look the dab radio didn't seem too bad as reguards bass or volume but the aux input is dreadful
