INSTALLING DIMMER SWITCH IN POLO-6R

Post by patil »

Hello friends, I drive Polo6R 2015MY, TSI 1.2/DSG7/105hp.
Indian Polo does not come fitted with brightness control switch(Dimmer switch), but only fitted with headlight range control switch.

I am planning to install dimmer switch " 6Q0 941 333 C" . It has controls for both brightness as well as headlight range control.

I am posting a new topic with pictures as per advice of master ciclo :D

Actually there is not much to study, are just two wires and the new Dimmer.
The new Dimmer (once connected) is the one that changes the direction of things. (signals)

Therefore:
- a wire from the output (b) of the SB7 fuse (to protect the installation, isolate original SB7b) to the slot 3 of the Dimmer connector.
- and the second wire spliced to the wire that feeds the right parking/side light to the 'A' point (diagram pic) to power the license plate lights. (isolate the cut ends)

Use a multimeter to know the exact points.

The signal for the license plate lights must always be 58.

Simple, easy, and effective ...

With BCM Max it is otherwise. (yours is BCM High)

If someone illustrates all this with images it will help others. :|

Oh! yes, patil, excellent images and info. Thank you very much for that. :D

This is the way to ask ...

Thank you so much master for your kind words :D I am happy that I lived up to your expectations :D

Now I understood clearly what I am supposed to do. But still I have some questions to you as follows:

1. What do you mean by " to protect the installation, isolate original SB7b" What are the consequences if I leave it connected

2. Where should I use the multimeter( I mean during which step of installation)

3. The wire to be used to bridge connection between slot3 and output of SB7b should be of any particular thickness(0.35/0.5/1.0) ?
Why I am asking this particular question is that, I have already hooked up a wire(0.35mm) to slot no3 and isolated the other end because I was not sure where to connect it.

I know my questions might be very silly, but please spare me master. I am still a novice

1
- I mean that the installation must be protected by a fuse with a BCM High.
- The new Dimmer will not work if you do not remove the original SB7b terminal and isolate it.

2 You should always use the multimeter. For example:
- To differentiate terminal SB7a (input) from terminal SB7b (output). voltage
- To know which is the terminal that feeds the right parking/side light. voltage
- To locate the license plate wires. continuity

3
- the wire from fusebox to Dimmer. 1.0mm2 thickness (mandatory). VW reference 000979133. That wire is perfect (correct contact-terminals on both sides).
- the wire to hook to RPL wire and the LPL wires. 0.5mm2 thickness

Many people spend two hours washing a car. (and a lot more...e.g. me )
Few are those who spend half an hour avoiding ruining the electrical installation of their cars. Those things that human beings do ...

IMHO it is necessary to have a little respect for those who developed all the microchips that carries installed any car in this first part of the 21st century.
Image Namaste.

Image Namaste.

Master Namaste :D

Thank you for clarifying my doubts. You made it lot easier for me to go ahead with installation.

Once SB7b terminal is isolated, I guess the power supply to plate lights is cutoff(?)

So to restore the power supply to plate lights, I need to bridge a connection from Rt tail lamp +12 feed (58) to plate wires?

By doing this, the plate lights are completely isolated from dimmer switch control and Rt tail lamp starts feeding the plate lights, right?

By the way master, even me too spend lot of time washing my car

Pleasure of driving a clean car is addictive

Everything YES (exactly)

Image
Remove some cloth tape to get the new splice away from connector.

Please take pictures of the process.... and if possible take a video of how the Dimmer works once installed. Thank you very much.
It is highly possible that many users are interested in retrofitting the Dimmer.

Interesting to see the parking lights with 58r. Parking lights with stalk to the left + ignition off = no license plate lights? Or 6R IND doesnt have the parking lights by stalk?

Hi iichel... Namaste(greetings) :D

Yes. 6R IND Polo's(RHD) parking lights are not controlled by stalks, instead they are controlled by headlight switch.

Both parking lights and plate lights are from 58 , hence both glow together once parking lights are switched on irrespective of ignition On/Off.

You are walking encyclopedia of Polo6R

Surely I will document all the details of installation process with pictures and videos. I will post all the details when it is done for the benefit of everyone. 8)

I will install the central trunk light too at the same time. Thanks for the tip :D

With BCM High they do not have parking lights, they have side lights only, activated by the light switch (->fuse->bulbs).
So it's just perfect to retrofit the Dimmer. :)
