Have you had it scanned with VCDS?

Also, give the throttle body a really good clean out with some carb cleaner spray

Hello thanks for replying, no i havent had it scanned..I dont what vcds is sorry..

Yes i already have cleaned it with carb spray, also fitted new dizzy cap and rotor arm/plugs etc...

Fitted a new breather pipe from pcv to air filter as that was collapsed, could a blocked pcv be the problem aswell, as the pipe keeps filling with gungey mess..

LIke i said it drives ok, dosent seem to have any problems, just revs while stationary just seem to die/ cut off then come back again..no problems on the move etc..

VCDS/Vag-com is the diagnostic software for the car. Its similar to what garages use to scan modern cars for faults.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-GROUP-USB ... 0753371108 Cheap option is that, used with vcds lite http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds-lite/

Sounds more like the idle valve isnt working properly. A block PCV wont help, but they dont normally fail
