Re: ABS pumps Solution with pics!
Finally got mine sorted!!
Managed to get the rounded off bolt loose, with the help of a local VW specialist.
And used the new bolt Joe kindly donated to me to replace it.
I Used a dremel and got the controller open in 5 minutes, soldered up the corrosion, re-sealed and job's a good un!!
An important part for future readers.. The tool needed to remove the 4 bolts is a Torx E5 head.

Hi guys
First time poster who happened upon this thread following some frantic Google searches!
Happy Polo GTi owner for 3 and a half years! However, for the past 6 months or so the ABS light in my W reg has been coming on around 20 seconds after I start driving. It then stays on until I stop. I'd assumed there was no real problem, as the brakes appeared to be working fine, and I'd had no real issues otherwise. About 2 months ago I took the car in for a couple of new tires and some pads/discs on the front. The mechanic noted the ABS light, saying it could be a problem with the pump but I shouldn't be worried. Last week I took it in for a full service and MOT, and wouldn't you know it, it failed with an intermittent ABS pump problem. The garage said I should take it to a VW specialist for a closer look, and today it's in at Lawson's Cars in Middlesbrough. They called me around 11am to say I'd need a pump replacement, costing a whopping 920 quid. FML I thought. So obviously I'm not paying that, and the resulting scramble for another option is what brought me here.
Does my problem sound like something which could be solved by the solution presented earlier in the thread? Are there any details I need to establish before I can be sure? I'm not very mechanically minded, so I'd be looking to friends or another specialist mechanic to do the work, but I just wanted to ask around before I decide what to do. If worst comes to worst, I can get another car - I'd actually been planning on it anyway, now I'm 25. But I love the Polo, and would hate to scrap it or give it away cheaply, because besides this ABS fault it's been very well looked after.
Anyway, any help/advice would be much appreciated. Cheers!

Re: ABS pumps Solution with pics!
Sounds EXACTLY what the problem is chap, the pump 99% never fails, just the module on the bottom the pump.
Just get someone to follow this thread and get it fixed

Yes it sounds very much like the problem. I'd also check both green fuses on top of the battery first, they can erode. Sand then down and re-insert.
A good way of checking is to get the fault read by someone. See if it matches the fault I mentioned a few posts earlier.
If it's the same and you cannot clear the fault, it's likely to be the solder in the controller.
It's not a hard job, just make sure you have access to a dremel and E5 torx head, and follow all advice gven throughout this thread.

Re: ABS pumps Solution with pics!
Hi there, sorry to refresh an old thread but I now have the same issue with my Polo GTi.
The fault code is 01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64)
16-00 - Signal Outside Specifications
A few questions regarding the removal of the ABS pump lower module.
Can the four bolts be removed from the top of the car or will I need to go underneath to get to the lower ones? (my tray underneath is an animal to get on/off)
I was looking to do a search for a second hand part before attempting to repair my current one.
Does anyone know what the actual part is called? On some sites it has ABS ECU, ABS MODULATOR, ABS PUMP or ABS CONTROL UNIT?
Also does anyone know any good places to source the part for a reasonable price?
Would really appreciate your help.

The four bolts can be removed from the top of the car. Just BE CAREFUL not to round them off as it's easily done!
The correct reference is ABS ECU or ABS control unit. the other part is the ABS pump.

It not a difficult job, just go for it!
A dremel is perfect for this job, so borrow one off a neighbour!
The correct torx head is vital also so you don't round the bolts off. I mention the size in an earlier post.
