smoking badly

i have a 1.2 polo 6v 9n with a BMD engine, it had the dreaded exhaust valve problem so i fitted a recon cylinder head, the compression is good on all cylinders yet it is smoking very badly , smells very rich and the plugs are constantly wet, i have checked the injectors for leakage and also replaced them, there is no check light on and it runs great apart from the constant cloud of smoke. anyone got any ideas
