Tyre Fitters

Post by vr6south »

Just had two tyres fitted and thought I'd check the BBS' before I left. On inspection they have managed to damage the laquer on the outside edge of one of the rims. It's only taken off about a 3mm part but the wheels were mint before they went in, so I'm not happy  I took this up with the fitter and he tried to tell me that couldn't have been them and showed me the machine which they used. I then reminded him that I had seen them use a tyre lever  They then changed tack and said it was due to the laquer peeling. I think not! Not wishing to doubt my honesty they offered to polish the rim, an offer which was turned down as why would I want one polished rim which would not match the other 3  After about 3/4 hour of debate they have agreed to investigate getting the rim refurbished as it was, ie diamond cut and laquered. They have taken my details so I'll have to see what happens...............

Feckers!

I'm having two new front tyres next week, but my BBS are still in their corroded state right now so I'm not concerned much for their safety. However, once I've had them refurbished I will be taking extra special care to ensure that when tyres are removed or fitted, the wheels are not damaged!

Sorry to hear this, hope you get it sorted swiftly and smoothly :)

In retrospect, I should have got the fitter inspect the condition of the wheels before he started. I know for next time. You live and learn.

I've had alloy wheels damaged in the past by Tyre fitters, most of them don't care if the wheels are not brand new.

^^Si- when you have your tyres fitted I'd still make a point of asking them to be careful, that's what I do now, as the outer rims of the BBS are quite soft and are easily damaged by a tyre lever, even if you are having them refurbed you don't want a big dent in them!
