Changing the gearbox fluid - Anyone got a guide for a MkIII?

Post by Gobert23 »

Yes, this is probably one of the easiest jobs to do in the world, but I've not tried it on my car before and I'd rather not make a pig's ear of of the job...

Anyone changed the gearbox fluid on their MkIII? Anyone written a guide to this yet? :?:

Just a bit worried that I get the levels all wrong... or break something.

Yeah, and where's the drain bolt??

Its easy to do. At the end of the gearbox are the two 17mm hex drain/fill plugs. Undo the bottom one and catch the oil and put the plug back once its all drained out. Then take out the top one and fill with gear oil until its level with the bottom of the hole, you can check by inserting your finger.

You need the proper 17mm plug key to undo them.
