Is it the 1043cc? my old MK2 used to do that all the time at high revs. I think its because theres so much power going into the alternator that it escapes into the electrical system, causing the battery light to light up.

If none of the above......

It could be the alternator itself - perhaps it's only just feeding enough charge to the battery when driving below 5500rpm but the extra strain of going over 5500rpm is making the battery light come on.

Alot of the time stuff like this tends to be dodgy earths/connections, specially with older cars.

I had this, and it gradually got worse until the alternator light would only go off at idle. It was basically the alternator slowly dying. The other thing it could be is belt slip, but its unlikely at that kind of rpm.

rite..... coz i got a posh head unit.... LMAO...... its got a Volt metre built in...... i turnd it on the other day, and it read 12.8 or summit like that when @ 0-5000RPM, but as soo as she hits 5000RPM.... the voltage is 11.6/.4....

so it drops a volt when its above 5000RPM....

any more light on the situation?????

thanks Guys!
