Doug's G40 Progress Thread!

Post by SpikeyG40 »

It about time you guys had an update of how my G40 is coming along! don't worry, i haven't forgotten about the girl!

my G40 has had quite a history already. some of you may remember this post from the meetings and events section:

http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/v ... be5bf72e02

well, the car has taken on another light, instead of modifying the G, i'm going to go all out stock with her! obviously i can't go as far as "out of the factory" condition as the sunroof is dealer fitted! so i'm going to go for "out of the dealer!"

so here are a few pics of the progress:

Orange indicators back on

Early spec rear lights on

Standard steering wheel back on

as for other internals, i have removed the 6x9's and put in a stock parcel shelf! i also kept the rear speaker pods:

i've re-routed the wiring for the rear speakers so they come up each side correctly!

other progress includes fixing the washer bottle from leaking. the valve on the pump was leaking water over the ignition coil! nice! so after much sorting out, i ended up getting one from a breakers and all seems well, i did of course have a bit of a clean when the washer bottle goes, so it looks a bit like this:

still plenty to keep me going:

Image
got a new arieal seal kit to fit! also have a boot seal to fit to try and stop the boot leak.

Image
gotta sort out this side strip, its held on by a wisker!

i have also determinded that my siren for the alarm is faulty! it won't make any noise! checked the fuse and still nothing so have left part of the interior out so i can get an engineer out from GAP security to repair it.

Image

but, i have added something to the car to make it that little bit more original!

pull out radio which was fitted to my old blue mk3! as near to the original radio as i can get!

at least the paint still comes up nicely!

comments welcome!

I approve of your plan to go for the 'standard' look.

A big part of the G40's appeal for me is the wolf-in-sheeps-clothing thing.
