Hopefully a return to Polo's!

Post by scottmk4 »

Hi there,

had a mk4 polo as a first car back when i was 17 and i am currently looking for another one, this time a mk7 gti! I currently own this car:

which is obviously the same chassis and it is currently up for sale/ part ex for a mk7 polo gti. Fingers crossed and i can come back to the polo and petrol world!

Is there anything to look out for as a common problem on these mk7 gti polo's? Got my eye on a particular one and it has had the gearbox done already, anything else i should be looking out for?

Cheers in advance :)

from experience mate i'd say go for an ibiza cupra instead, having had a polo gti and a cupra (albeit a TDi) the ibiza is by far the better car to drive. it's better equipped as standard, more agressive looks, more powerful as standard and handles alot better (even with the extra weight of a derv engine upfront) the only down side is the build quality, which is obviously better in the polo :D
obviuosly all in my opinion!

forgot to mention, only downside to the better handling is that you sacrafice the ride quality, but looking at the stance on your ibiza, that's not an issue!

Been keeping an eye out for both the polo gti's and a decent ibiza cupra. Theres one good example of the polo i have found that already has the coilies etc on it and theres no decent cupras for sale which are pretty new and low mileage with the mods on. Just couldnt face buying a standard one and then buying the exact same mods all over again. Was half tempted to split all the bits off the ibiza, get a cupra or gti and fit them all again but its such a ball ache!

Yeh the ride doesnt bother me, even doing a 56 mile round trip 5 days a week to work and back haha The ride is that bad as standard its possibly a little bit better now on the coilies! Think im just more drawn towards the polo because its more un-assuming to the masses and you cant get the cupra's in white :(

Cheers for your input, just gotta hope out of all these people 'interested' that someone has the money to buy it from me!

Cheers

better on coilies?! lol fair play! the polo's by no stretch of the imagination a bad car, it was great fun to own, mine was mapped and suprised so many type r's and others alike, really good fun! just think it could be a bit better as standard!

your ibiza looks a lovely looking car though fair play, really like the look you've gone for!

The fr is mapped and isnt too far behind type-r's in a straight line mind, sure if your pd160 was mapped it'd have them! The polo i have my eye on has the kw v1 coilies got forge recirc and t.i.p and the apr software so should be a fun little car!

Yeh i hated the ride on the ibiza as standard, was so so stiff and was still like a 4x4! Your cupra not that bad then? Must be just me getting old before my time haha cheers for the compliments, hopefully if i get a polo it will go down a similar styling route :)

i bet they love that!!! i did want to get the cupra mapped, shoulda been around 210? never got round to it though! that sounds like a tidy spec though, couple more mods, stage 2 map and you'll never stop smiling!! bye bye vxr's and st's!!

the cupra was awful, so stiff you felt every bump in the road! you get used to it though! :D

Cheers Cam, i'll keep an eye out :)

haha yeh he sorta give me the thumbs up after. Yeh hopefully that was the plan to stage 2+ the gti if i get one and just be happy with that! Ahh you not got the cupra anymore like? Yeh they map to 200ish i think, as they have the front mount etc as standard and a bigger turbo over the fr!
