Hey all, having a mare and cant find much info on this,
on my polo 6r gti my engine mang light is on, and when i plug it in it comes up that its misfiring and a supercharger clutch fault
Im getting no power in drive and from research its sounds as its going into "safe mode"
Does anyone know anything about this, how much work it would be to replace it, or even if i can.
The car isnt under vw warranty anymore, i have warranty from where i brought it, but only sudden failure.
Also i'd want to put some new spark plugs in, which ones are best.
Thanks in advance!
Supercharger clutch

Re: Supercharger clutch
First thing i did is google it and found that, but like i said i havnt found much on this, cant find no other posts than that one.
Plus the outcome is they took it back to vw, and like i said im not under warranty so was no help.

Re: Supercharger clutch
It doessound like the magnetic clutch has failed meaning no drive to the supercharger. Best bet would be VW for a proper diagnostic, their equipment should come up with more accurate info.
Re: Supercharger clutch
What's the mileage on your car BTW?
Re: Supercharger clutch
Ookay thanks. My problem does sound like the same as the guys post on the other forum.
Although it was a mechanic that had a look with his diagnostic machine. I could always try VW too if they can get a more detailed read.
Im going to do some research on that picture you posted now I no the proper name of the clutch.
its about 52,000.

Re: Supercharger clutch
From what I understand basic diagnostics can give a semi-accurate fault code but VW will be able to provide more specific info.
Re: Supercharger clutch
Also, from what I gather, the clutch is part of the water pump so this would need replacing as a single unit.
Re: Supercharger clutch
I think this is the part you're after (assuming clutch failure), the megnetic clutch is part of the pump I believe - one belt drives the pump (inner pully) and then a belt on the outer pully drives the supercharger. The inner pully drives the outer pully when the ECU wants the supercharger in play, otherwise the outer pully doesn't spin therfore no drive to the supercharger:
