Problem with dashboard display

Post by merlinpolo »

Hi, I have a 2003 Polo 1.4 petrol. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed it was having problems starting, and decided I'd best get a new battery.I had a couple of weeks hols, didn't use the car and forgot about getting a battery. After two weeks, it had real problems starting in the morning, but ok in the evening and next morning. After it had started on the 1st morning, the clock and trip counter had reset. I noticed that night that my clock and mileometer weren't turning off when I took the key out. I can't remember if it was turning off before the starting problem or after. Can anyone shed some light on this?? :?: Thanks

No, clock and mileage stay up all the time

You might want to get your alternator checked if you are 100% the battery is good

Also make sure nothing is stuck on draining your battery when the car is off

Have you replaced the battery now?

Hi, thanks, no I haven't replaced battery yet, as thought it was the display draining it. I was convinced it turned off :?

I think you need a new battery

If your clocks and tripmeter reset after starting, its because the battery isnt holding a charge and the startup is depleting it

It's been starting ok the last few days, and the clock etc have stayed on and not reset at all. Now I'm debating on change the battery or not.
Sods law the next frosty day will kill it if I dont!

If a battery dies like that, it never is the same afterwards

With winter coming, and for the sake of £40, swap it out if you can

I was debating which one to get. According to VW, I can use either an 012 (40v) or 027 (60v). The current one is a 60v, but they are more expensive, and I'm not planning to keep the car long. And I'm a cheapskate!

Pop to GSF or Euro and pick up a 027. They shouldn't be much more than £35/£40

Hi, thanks. Got one through a friend in the end. Finally fitted and starting great. Didn't realise how poor it was before! Now the electric windows are having a funny turn. They are only going up and down when you hold the button. They used to go up or down fully if you pressed the button and let go.

Youll need to reset the windows

Press the down position and hold for 10 seconds, then shut the window and hold up position for 10 seconds

Glad its sorted :)

The passenger one works, but can't get driver's one to do it. I'll have a go again tomorrow.

I hope I am asking in right place I recently saw this post as was looking for information about polo 1.2 SE. I recently change my dead battery and now I notice my clock and mileage dash display is on even when keys out and car locked!? Is this supposed to happen? And would it not drain my new battery overnight?!
