Powering Dash Cam Query - Polo 6r (2012)

Post by Golemsmate »

Hi all - I'm thinking of investing in a small dash cam and have a question about the best way to power it! (hoping somebody has already installed one)

I've got three options that I've managed to come up with:

1) power via the cigarette lighter - not ideal as it'd leave me without anywhere to charge a phone and also quite messy with trailing wires

2) MDI USB connection inside the glove box - not 100% if this would provide sufficient power to run the dash cam though

3) hard wire into fuse box, I've struggled to find anything too helpful RE the fuse box layout or of there's a free one that would draw enough power and turn off with the ignition...

Has anyone tried installing a dash cam yet, if yes what solution has worked for you?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks nisis - good idea with the dual USB charger, is there an empty space behind the plastic cover for the wire to route round to the nearside of the car and up to the top of the windshield?

Yeah, that's the easiest solution, I personally have mine wired to the wiring loom which runs on the left hand side of the car so it's always on until the battery reaches 12v and then it cuts. Power Magic Pro and Blackvue for me though.

I noticed your photo and saw your cup holders have coasters in them? Where can I acquire them or are they custom made at home?

I did not install. But apparently in the photo it looks ok. Why not?
