Polo power drain.

Postby Redhall442 » Sat May 21, 2016 7:04 pm

Hi all
I'm new here and need a little help. I've a major power drain on the battery ,it dying Daily now. I've just done an amp check on the power run off when the car is off and it's still pulling 0.13-0.17, if I pull fuse number 5 it drops away to 0.3-0.5 . If I leave the fuse out I have no central locking or alarm. Any advice would be help full. Thanks

That's an acceptable draw

How old is the battery? Have you had the alternator checked?

Yes new battery plus stand by to for the jump start...
Alternator is ok and putting plenty back in to the battery.
A fully charged battery will last around a four days.
I've got everything I can think of ether unpluged or bulbs out, just see if that help.
My only thought is the ECU, not powering the car down correctly.

Sorry for taking so long to notice this posting, but 0.17Amp sounds like the normal battery drain when all systems are still active, ie awake. The 0.005Amp is what I'd expect when all systems have been shut down or put to sleep by the power supplies controller, in newer cars gets called the BCM.

Now I have never had that problem on a 9N Polo, by my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza 6J is doing my head in as it has this problem, only noticed if the car is not used for more than 5 days!! One SEAT dealer refused to check for software updates and just replaced a steering wheel angle sensor - wrong! When I went back to them they were closing up and selling the land for quality house building!! Took it to second SEAT dealer "yes it will be a software update needed" - after having the car in "sorry no software update available for this car £99 please, and we will contact SEAT about this and get back to you!" a week later no word so I went in "yes SEAT have confirmed that there is a software update available for this car - just book it in!" No doubt that will be another £99 which seems strange when my original hour diagnostic from a tech should have found the software update???

That was just a sad tale hopefully with a good outcome later next month, I'd doubt if your car has a software problem, more like a module or its wiring has an issue and is being noisy enough to keep all the system awake and draining that battery.

Though maybe by now you have dumped that car or been successful in getting it repaired.
