Help please

Post by luke.jeffery »

Hi all just bought myself a 2001 polo gti 6n2
Car has good history covered 76000 miles.
Engine light on but all scanners can't connect?
Massive loss of power , rough tickover, missfire sometimes...
It runs rough when ever it wants no real time. Hot or cold.
Runs better sometimes then worse others.

Changed ht leads, coolant temp sensor, cam sensor but still crap.

Weird this is if I play with plug on cam sensor it runs how it should then turn it off and it's back to normal?? Then sometimes it just won't do anything...

I love the car but losing will to live...
It's really holding back and won't pull away smoothly

Any advice would be great

Thank you

I had the same sort of issues a few years back, it turned out to be lamda sensor problems. I had a post cat fail shortly before the wiring on the pre cat broke. The difference for me was that I had Vagcom pointing me in the right direction. It's a bit expensive changing those if it's not gauranteed to fix you problem though.

Is the coil pack still original? These can get over looked when changing plugs and leads.

Hope that gives some food for thought!

Coilpack looks new but was thinking about checking that and plugs.
Today it's drove perfect for 60 miles and it's really baffled me
No issues at all but I know I'll start later and it will be back to normal. I'm gonna book into veewee in Bristol and hopefully they can sort it as I don't wanna give up on it

Off to vw in morning.. I did notice today that on positive clamp on battery the metal has broke and only just held on. Ovs who ever did gearbox was butcher. Off that clamp is wiring that does head to loom with cam shaft sensors etc, could that be one of problems, I did clean with electric cleaner and did run well again. Well for few hours

No one can get a scanner to communicate with car so I changed temp sensor
Plugs, ht leads and coil pack, cam sensor too but still missing and lack of power
Slowly giving up
Did notice plug 3 was wet with oil?

Have you tried replacing the fuel filter?

Check all the fuses as a blown fuse can cause the diagnostics not to connect
