215/40 R17 Tyres

Post by ASneakyHippo »

Hi all,

Just wondered what standard tyres were coming on the 215/40 R17 wheels? Also what range of miles are people seeing on them?

I am very excited to collect my new GTI in mid march and wondered what to expect :) for those of you that have replaced a set what did you end up replacing them with and at what cost?

Cheers

Ben

it differs quite a lot. sometimes it's bridgestone, dunlop or continental. it depends on what VW has the best contract with at the time.

When I got my GTI last March, seemed like the majority were fitted with Bridgestones at the time, and a few with Continentals.

Awesome thanks guys!

Anyone replaced them yet and if so what are you putting back on at what cost? I remember when I had an SLK I was told Toyos were a great replacement at a faction of the costs of the top brands. No sure that's true or not lol

The wife got 12k miles from her front tyres. Bridgestone S001. The rears are still mint.

We've replaced them with Toyo T1R a few months ago and so far they've been great.

If they were Bridgestones, then 6k does seem low as Bridgestone performance tyres are quite a hard compound (so hard wearing) compared to, say, Continentals. The trade off is that Bridgestones are not as grippy as some of the other performance tyres

I purchased 4x landsail 215 40 R17's 87xl they have so much tread done 13k on them and they have loads left. Got a set for 140 quid and they are A rated for wet grip. Think B for fuel. Will deffo get another set and keep aside for replacements

Got S001's on mine too. Have done about 14k and I reckon could have another 4k in the fronts though will probably change them sooner. Rears seem like new.

Car seldom gets driven in a manner that the tyres are complaining and I rarely attempt quick starts as the tyres just don't grip well enough to bother, so not putting the sort of wear on them that Dink seems to have achieved.
