18inch 8J wheels in Polo 6R?

Post by RadoX »

Hello, as I know by default VW Polo 6R there are 7.5J wheels in 18".
18" 8J with ET35 are protrude beyond the car body, but I found wheels with ET45.
Does the 225x35 tire fit inside? Rims are a little cost and I don't be sure if they will not hit the wheel arch or shock absorber... :roll:

i've seen people driving the audi TT 8N BBS rims, they are 18x8J with some ET value. It had 215/35 tyres.
i know some stories about people driving 18x9J but unsure about any other rim specifications.

Easiest way to see if a 8Jx18 ET35 or ET45 will fit is to go on an alloy wheel retailer website such as www.rimstyle.com and see which offset of wheels they display in 8Jx18” size for a 2011 6R Polo. They will also also show which size tyres to fit. Here are the 8Jx18” wheels for a 2011 6R Polo on the Rimstyle website;

https://www.rimstyle.com/alloywheels/se ... l8.00l8.00

You can also use the calculator on www.willtheyfit.com - input the details of your existing wheel / tyre set up and your proposed new wheel / tyre set up and the calculator will show the critical measurements for you, such as poke and tuck. If the calculator states that the inner face of the new wheels sits x mm closer to the suspension strut and the outer face pokes out y mm further compared to your existing set up, you can then physically measure whether this would cause any clearance / rubbing issues.

If your car is lowered, then bear in mind that with wider wheels and tyres, you could experience rubbing issues when the car’s suspension is under load (e.g. when the car is fully laden, when cornering hard or when driving on very poor, uneven road surfaces when there could be excessive suspension travel).

With the ET35 and 8J, the front wheels are sticking out quite clearly, I'm afraid this is against the rules in most countries.

Here are 18" 8J ET35 ABT:

IMO also in rear they stick out too much.

I agree, IMHO they protrude too far out from the car’s bodywork, so could be illegal in many countries.

It’s also worth remembering that even if the wheel doesn’t protrude beyond the bodywork, the tyres might (will depend on the width of the tyres fitted). Even with the 6C Polo GTI and the standard 7.5J x 17” wheel and 215/40 R17 tyre set up, in the UK (not sure about other markets) VW fitted little plastic wheel arch extenders to the rear wheel arch lip to cover the exposed section of the tyre tread - you can see it if you zoom in on the picture below;

Yeap, I noticed also Mazda, Audi and a lot of other cars have something like this
