Re: Exantas Skoda Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI
They are splices (not visible) inside the original wiring, so you have to do a search in the Elsawin with the terms B528, B320 to know exactly all the places/connectors-terminals that reach all the wires that attached to such junctions .
Then you choice the original terminal/wire that make it easier for you to do a new splice or crimp the new terminal/wire.
For example, in the 6R the T73b/17 LIN (B528) is also in the T28 door connector, which is an easier place than the white BCM connector (T73b) to splice a new wire that comes from the MFSW.
In many models of contact terminals it is possible to crimp two wires at the same time (it is contemplated in the crimping guides), except for those of small size such as MQS, etc, if the cable thickness is too large for these small terminals, the two wires would not enter through the connector slot.

Re: Exantas Skoda Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI
For the power cable I plan to use a terminal like this and get power from the fuse that is assigned for MFSW.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 4106825810
Now the slot is already populated, and I think it is a more practical way, than soldering down there.
For the MQS pins side, I was thinking to buy the connector pins and make my own cables with the factory theackness. But then I saw how expensive are the crimp tools for those and I can't justify the cost for 2 cables.
Although I cannot tell the cable gage for the pre terminated 000 979 009 E cables in Ali express, I believe it is going to be OK for MFSW use.

000 979 009 E turns out to be 0.5 thickness cable, so it would be ok for both power and LIN

Cluster swap was successful in the end.exantas wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 2:45 pm I have a Skoda 5J with the ugly Green IC with codewithCode: Select all
HW: 5J0 920 810 E Component: KOMBI H15 0206
And I want to change to a maxidot White one. So I bought the following USED IC
and production date of the instrument cluster 09.11.11Code: Select all
HW: 5J0 920 841 E Component: KOMBI H04 0305
I bring the instrument in "vergin mode" - zero km and zero attached keys and try to adapt on my car.
I transfer the VIN/ID, CS and PIN (Power class is not available on the old green cluster) from the old cluster to the "new" one .
I add my existing keys to the new cluster, but the instrument show a message "no key in range".
I do the process all over again but this time I try with a new blank TP24 ID48 Megamos Chip Glass. The TP24 chip is added, but I get the same message on from the IC "no key in range". I scan the chip again and it shows that now is TP23 (I have done the process twice and both times the same result)
Old cluster eeprom is 24C32 but the "new" one is 24C64. Menu functionality with trip button looks 100% functioning. Indication lamps and gages look functioning (oc I can't test Rev and speedo).
I am on a dead end and out of ideas at the moment.
Is there something that someone can propose or the project is a lost cause ?
Thank you for your time
You can swap 5J0 920 810 E cluster to a 5J0 920 841 E one.
For VIN: TMBJN25J5Bxxxxxxx you don't need to get new TP24 ID48 Megamos Chips and you don't need to do any HW changes. Only transfer the immo data from old cluster to the new one.
Cluster was upgraded to 0709 firmware.

I am planning to retrofit Cruise Control in my car and I need to upgrade my 6R7937086F BCM
Is there an advantage/disadvantage to go for a 7H0937090D BCM instead of 6R7937087P if I can find them in similar price?
I don't have any plans for auto lights or direct TPMS.
I only want to do CC and MFSW retrofit.

Happy new year everyone, best of luck for 2020.
@ciclo what size is the crimp slots that you use to crimp the metal pins in the fuse box under the steering column?
1-24: Junior power timer
25-60: Standard power timer
I am taking about the dimensions you can see on the PA-09 and PA-21 pliers from your last post regarding the CC Emulator.

Re: Exantas Skoda Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI
Same to you, Happy New Year!
You must test what are the most appropriate measurements of the crimp grooves/slots, there are several possible dimensions, and possibilities, depending on the wire thickness to crimp, contact terminal, and manufacturer.
The contact terminal should be held lightly (without excessive force/tension) inside the crimp tool groove/slot.
It requires some skill, experience to make a good crimp (manually).
For the JPT I use the PA-21.
For SPT I use another type of crimp tool, bigger and power, similar to those sold on Aliexpress.
Good tools do not guarantee a good crimp.
I have many crimping tools, by size, cost and quality.

Re: Exantas Skoda Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI
Thank you for the answer Fernando.
For the MFSW retrofit I plan to take power from the fuse assigned from the factory for this use. Since the slot is already populated, I plan to replicate the solution that Skoda CC retrofit kit does and create a "bridge" using pins like these
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-PIN-Male-Fem ... 4106825810
Fabia 5J gets a cigarette lighter socket in truck area as an option and oc I want to retrofit it
My idea for this is on the fuse that the cigarette lighter in the console is using, snip the existing terminal and have two cables come from a new terminal.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/10PCS-Vw-N-907 ... 2749.l2649
One cable is going to be the existing cable that goes to the console and second is going to be the new cable that I will pull to trunk area

Re: Exantas Skoda Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI
My car came from factory without ESP, so I have ABS8.2 and slip ring without steering angle position sensor.
If I upgrade the slip ring to one for ESP car (provided I installed the extra wires needed) will it work without errors if I don't upgrade the to an ESP pump?
I am interested to retrofit static cornering lights function through the existing fog lights.

Re: Exantas Skoda Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI
This week I started few (or many) long planned changes in my Fabia.
I am starting from the easy one.
The trunk light for estate variant of the car is the same size and connector type as the footwell lights in VW Passat and Golf, Skoda Superb.
So I went to Ali express and baught a pair of lights that come with a fixed board that has an array of 18 led lights.
They are not original but they produce way more light vs the original foot lights that have a single led light.
Original VW footwell light
Ali express footwell light VS original Fabia festoon trunk light.
Change is plug and play and new lamp is producing way more light.

Re: Exantas Skoda Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI
Next it is time for BSM upgrade
My car came with 6R7937086B, but I always wanted to retrofit CC . So last summer I bought from forum user Vasileios his old BCM 6R7937087H from an automatic gearbox Fabia vRS.
Old BCM
New BCM
For the process I used
1. A flathead screw driver (to unclip the old BCM)
2. Obdeleven
3. Beach sezlong (I opened the drivers door and set it next to the car. This way my back was in the car and my legs on the chair, so I could access the BCM with my back on the car floor. This way you can work longer on this position without need to remove the drivers car seat)
So far I was able to install new BCM , set old long coding from old BCM and Gateway and adapt the keyfobs.
Issues/faults:
On IC I'm getting a fault code that didn't have before the Bcm change
On BCM I get one fault code for backup lightbulb check
On Gateway I am getting 5 fault codes:
My car doesn't have these modules and I have not found a way to change the installation list using Obdeleven so far.
Visible change with new BCM
1.Now IC show safe lock message after removing key from ignition. The car always had this functionality but never showed this message before.
https://www.youtube.com/Bq0NCFRVoyQ
2. The gear shift indicator on the IC is not working any more. There is no indication about the current gear or recommendation to select specific gear

Update
I got my hands on a VCDS cable and I updated the gateway list.
I removed all the modules that my car didn't have (especially the module for the automatic gearbox) and all fault codes went away and the gear shift indication appeared back on the IC.
In general you can change the gateway list options with obdeleven, but it looks like that feature is buggy on Android phones and didn't show up for me.
On Iphone seams to work better.

Re: Exantas Skoda Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI
Today I gutted my car for good.
I made myself the cables for Mfsw and G85 retrofit. I have also acquired CC retrofit wire harness, original Skoda spare part and got the wires fitted on the same time. For G85 I got Canbus signal from IC harness. I got power from the according fuses SB 4 and SB 22. Ground I set on the nut that exist on the steering column. For Mfsw I got power from SB 22. Lin signal I got from A pillar T28 wire harness. Elsa win was stating that cable for LIN was supposed to be white-gray.
In my car there is no such a cable. After lifting the car insulation that covers T28 I saw pin 5 that the cable in my car is yellow-gray.
I split apart T73b on BCM module and checked for continuity between pin 17 (white-gray) and yellow-gray cable and got the bip from my multimeter. So I am good with that.
When it comes to CC I have set all cables in T41a connector, but I have trouble with fuse box. I don't know how to unlock the fuse box so I can insert new pin in slot SB5.
Any one knows what lock I need to remove and how for slot SB5? The box seams to have 3 tabs.
One purple one the top and one purple and one blue on the side.
I have zero clue how to open the top one.
IC out, airbag, steering wheel, slip ring and stalks out also.I made myself the cables for Mfsw and G85 retrofit.

Re: Exantas Skoda Fabia 5J 1.2 TSI
Since I was stuck with fusebox, I started putting back the interior.
I replaced the indicator stalk with a brand new unit that has the lever with the CC buttons, but not the trip computer ones. I got a used slipring with the steering angle sensor from Vasileios Fabia VRs For steering wheel I went with a refurbished MFSW. New leather parts with used buttons from what I can tell. Last was the "sad" part.
I had order new airbag cable that has provisioning for the steering buttons.
My car came with this airbag And I had ordered 3T0 971 584A cable That didn't work though:
1. Pins that go on the airbag are the wrong size and wont fit the airbag pins
2. Also the blue cable is too short: If I set one of the blue pins on the airbag (90 degree pin with black cable originally), the other blue pin doesn't reach to the other pin like you see in the original cable.
So I went to local Skoda dealer and order the wrong cable again
I ordered 5JA 971 584 which turns out to be completely wrong for my application That cable is for Skoda Fabia 5J but for "03.10.2011>>", i.e. cars with the new style of steering wheel and airbag. Now that I knew what was the correct cable for my application I went once more to local Skoda dealer and ordered
3T0 971 584 Unfortunately by the time new cable arrived, I had to go away and couldn't install it on the car and test it.
So currently the car looks this way Looking smart with all this new buttons that don't work and without the trip computer buttons to change the change the IC menu :/
From all this work I had 3 things that improved:
1.New steering wheel feeling. Feels way better compared to the original plastic one.
2. Indicator stalk is brand new and feels so much better compared to the original one that had 100k on it. When the indicator stalk returns to original position is noticeably quieter.
3. I got my hands on a NOS gearshift boot from a pre facelift 5J and installed that. So all areas that you touch every day have brand new materials
MFSW buttons and CC has to wait until next time I have access on the car.
Until then I hope I will have figured out how to unlock the fuse box locking tabs.
