Need help on Side Assist

Post by sejuani »

Hellow everyone,
I'm sejuani from Taiwan.
I have a POLO 6R 1.6 105hp CLSA hatchback.
Thanks to the information given by masters like ciclo and iichel on this forum,
I have successfully installed Alarm Horn, Boots Lights, Cruise Control, DRL, OPS and RLHS myself

Now, I want to install 3C-Lane Change(side assist) but stucked at some processes
At present, I have finished following steps:
1. Upgrading the instrument cluster from Midline to MFA (6JA 920 940 C SW 0709)
2. Editing the instrument cluster EEPROM, Activating Lane Assistance and Side Assistance

3. Installing the BSD module and Wiring (Not include indicators, still need some time)

2. Coding, 03 01 11 02
3. Chacking 3C-Lane Change in 19-CAN Gateway install list

4. Updating the BSD module HW(5Q0 907 686 C 0080) to 0081
5. Filling the parameterization V03935276UZ
6. Activating the Analysis 4 in adaptation channel(with entering the access code 20103)
7. Auto calibration to 100%

Eventhouhg I have completed the previous steps, I still cannot see Side Assist on my instrument cluster.
After seaching information on this forum and drive2, I come up with 2 possible solutions
First,changing BCM from 087 to 090 or 18D 937 087(unconfirmed information from china forum)
Second, changing radio from RCD330 to discover media
Or if there is any other possible solution that I have missed?
I'll be really appreciated if anyone can give me some advices.

@ sejuani welcome! nice to see a detailed post.πŸ‘Œ

It's highly likely that your present gateway (6RU) won't support side assist. 7E0 gateway( 7E0 BCM's) definitely supports it. And also, Discover media/ composition media is required for rear traffic alert (RTA) guide lines to work. I don't think DM/CM is required for side assist to work, but I am not 100% sure.
Unless you have a working side assist menu in cluster to activate side assist, there is no way you can have working side assist even though you have done complete installation.

I would start looking at your edited eeprom dump to begin with. Please share your edited IC eeprom dump here. Upload it to some file hosting site and post the link here. Thank you

Thanks for your reply, I'll buy a CH341A Programmer first and try to load my EEPROM.(Actually, the EEPROM editing above is done by my friend)
So, I need to check 0454, To activate side assist, bit 0 must be 1, is that correct?

In my 6JA cluster , when I had software 0711 I had to change x0454 from 20 to 13 (it disables PDC menu), 23 or 33 does not work , you must disable pdc menu bit !
and if you solder the 2 leds and the other components for the indicators in your cluster, change x02db from 80 to 82 (bit 1 on) and make sure x02f9 bit 1 is on (7e in my case).

First, I want to thank iichel, patil, ciclo and til3tsio again.
After long time waitting, I received my CH341A for loading EEPROM few days ago.
I follow your suggestions to check 0454 and change from 21 to 13.
Guess what?It works!

Excellent πŸ‘
Now we know that 6RU gateway does support side assist.πŸ‘Œ
When I did the installation of side assist in my 6R, I didn't have to edit eeprom to enable the side assist menu in my Polo gti cluster (sw 805). The side assist menu along with the RTA menu ( DM previously installed) appeared automatically. This means that, both the menus are activated by default in my cluster.

Image

Out of curiosity, I checked my IC eeprom dump today. The byte address 0454 value is "10" instead of expected "13".

Image

Probably the side assist menu byte address is different in Polo gti clustersπŸ€”

My 6R GTI IC eeprom (original).
Image

The eeprom address for the Side Assist in the 0805 SW 6R GTI IC 2015-->... is the same as the same eeprom models.

From what I have been able to observe, the Side Assist, Lane Change, BSD, RTA, RCTA, Brightness intensity, will appear on the different MFD screens depending on the radar models installed, and it may appear in several menus/screens so that it is fully accessible.
@Patil
Do you also have access to side assist from the MFD main menu? Or only from the assistants menu?

The darkness confuses us...

Let me write down my observations.
I have used on my Toledo 6J instruments many different firmwares to test them out.
I have tested 06xx, 07xx, 08xx, 100x, 11xx from different pq25 vehicles.
I have 5q0..C radars and for the rear traffic alert menu to appear you have to use a firmware that is 08xx or newer, it is dependent neither on radio nor BCM.
In the x454 address staring from 08xx firmware the default is 10 and the menus appears without editing, also on transporter 1xxx eeprom I have seen 14 and the menu also appears.
All these test were done using firmwares that are available online on the "disks" except the 1009 amarok together with the vdo editor libraries.

Almost 2 years now am using 1009 amarok firmware and everything was working but a few weeks back the blindspot menu that is located in settings > assistants disappeared but everything is still visible on the MFD assistants specific page and I have no clue what is wrong.

In relation to the loss of the BSD menu in the settings menu, you already know that due to very diverse and different reasons, communication failures occur between units, consequently wrong messages are generated, which can partially or completely disable the functions of the units involved.
I assume you have scanned your car to find out something about it.
Have you recently noticed any malfunctions with your radars? False detecctions/positives.
Have you done any other retrofitting recently? :)
Have you tried to remove the negative battery ('hard reset') to see if you can recover it?

Blindspot is still working as it should and it is still available on MFD assistants screen and I can toggle activation normally.
But assistants menu is not available in settings screen anymore.
The only error that I have is on pdc because I have a 1k8 unit and I have already tried "hard resetting" the car, also nothing changed in the car to trigger the loss of the menu.
In the bottom line if I can still see it from the main screen and it is working ok I don't mind , but I am just wondering how it disappeared from settings

@Patil
Do you also have access to side assist from the MFD main menu? Or only from the assistants menu?

The darkness confuses us...

I have the side assist option only in assistants as I shown in the above post. In the main menu, after installing 1K8 OPS module, I got a separate menu for park assist through which I can enable or disable auto 8K ops.

@til3tsio thank you for additional information.πŸ‘
I guess all these assistants display on MID depend on IC firmware, Gateway version, Radio MIB models etc.. which will have different communication protocols with involved modules.

OK, thanks Patil.πŸ‘
I exactly wanted to know if 'Assistants' appeared in the settings/main menu, ... in addition to the Assistants menu.
To understand us, without the BSD radars installed (at this time), I do not have the 'Assistants' in the settings, however, I have the Assistants menu where is the Driver Alert.
