Had my gearbox reconditioned, replaced the clutch and the clutch cable. Great people, really helpfull!

085 TYPE VW POLO MK4 & MK5 & GTI 1997 TO '02 - £395 + VAT

I took it into VW Cambridge when the gears being engaged weren't the gears I selected which made driving difficult. They quoted me £1080 for a new gearbox and a further £1000 for labour and clutch. I knew they'd be pricey but not that pricey! They also said it was already on a second box, so after this change, it's now on it's 3rd! The annoying bit is the gearbox was covered under warranty from the dealer I purchased it from but the problems didn't start until 1 week after the warranty had finished . Eventually bought the recon'd box and got a local mechanic to install it for £240. Total cost for gearbox ~ £700.

I have my polo gti on 104,000 miles original box still in!!! and worried about all the talk about them and does anyone no, can i replace it with a diesel box insted? cheers

no, the ratios are different!

Yeh, but there no point. they are exactly the same box but different ratios. You wouldn't gain any benefits from it.

Failed again. New one fitted, 12 months warrenty £550 fitted. D&C gearboxs, prerivale, ub6
