Hey,
I've been driving the car about for the past few days, and noticed that the car seems to be very sluggish until about 4/5000 revs. Is this just the case of there being flat spots and need of a remap, or are all GTis like that?

Mines not like that...
It picks up from about 1500 and steadily gets more power up to about 5500RPM..
If you have flat spots like that then you have a problem that needs looking at!

The car doesn't come into it's own until about 4500 Max, with peak power being between 5500-6000 (I think)
It may pick up nice and quick from 1500 in 1st gear but not so much the other 4.

like it picks up.. but it just doesn't feel like a 125bhp car, they're not what I call flat spots, but I just thought that the power would be a lot more spread

Mine isn't too nippy up to 3k, it has to go past it to get the power

Peak power on an unmodified GTi is at 6500rpm according to the brochure.

I think mine gets into its stride well at about 3500 - 4000, especially on a slip road onto the motorway

On the rollers my Polos peak power was past just past 6800 revs, when I wanted to make quick progress I always wound it round to 7k the engine never really died off, it pulled OK low down for a 16v engine but was at its best over 4k which is round about where the VVT kicked in.
