Here is a how-to I have done for fitting front fogs on a 9N.

Download the PDF file for offline reference and printing.

Also, get the reader if you don't have it already:

Good mod definately looks more aggressive.

Please don't drive around with your sidelights on and front fogs on at the same time. Drives me nuts when I see people doing this.

I've just noticed that SEAT offer a retrofit fog lamp kit for the SEAT Ibiza it's £133.05 and I imagine you get the loom in there. However, your gonna end up with fogs/grilles and a h/lamp switch you won't need. But if you don't mind spending a bit more money to save some hassle, theres your option :)

Wow!

That's SWEEEET!

I really feel like doing it hehe!

How much of the car did you have to dismantle to get the wiring done?

I guess you get no indication that the front fog lights are on with this mod, just indication for the rear fog light? (right brake is brighter on drivers side?)...

I guess it ain't that important really...

You don't really need to dissmantle much of the car though i think it'd be easeier too, the only part i had to take out was the stereo and cubby box to get the wire to the switch.

Your right you don't get an indication on the dash however the switch with the wront fog position lights up green when the front fogs are in use :)

Would any one know if it is alright to use a 5A switchable relay with a 5A in-line fuse?

Thanks!

just make a new post in the 'Martyn at VAG parts' at the bottom of the main forum menu.

I looked up his profile and sent him a message and copied it to Alan. But as it became clear that it would cost me an arm and leg to clear packages from VAG I ordered the grilles, fogs and switch off an eBay retailer for a pretty good price :)

Should take about a week for it to arrive - quite excited :D

I was going to say ebay might be cheaper (no offence to Martyn). I'm confused about the fuse and relay question. (not hard to confuse me)

OK.

I found out that the fogs use H3 12V bulbs and these are usually rated at 55W. This means that each lamp draws around 4.5A and so naturally two means 9A (in parallel for best performance).

Therefore I found a sweet 12v relay that can handle a switching current of 40A with spade connectors @ Maplins. Got a friend posting this to me.

I'm also going to attach a DLS fuseholder with a 10A glass fuse inline with the power from the battery to the relay.

The other consideration is wiring - I'm going to use something like AWG18 wire for the light switch to relay and relay to ground (very low power consumption) and probably AWG 16 (1.5mm^2) for the high current sections (which is the bulk of the wiring).

Something else that most people might miss is the diode across the +ve and -ve terminals of the relay coil (to prevent back EMF coughing up into the source)...so after checking the datasheet I may end up soldering a diode such as a 1N4148 (Ideal) or 1N4007 (OTT but I have a few of these spare) such that the diode points from the -ve to the +ve.

Note: Some relays come with this built in..many do not...

Thanks, Mike
