1ST car.... 6N polo!

Post by carlgannon »

This is my first ever car, its only a 1liter but as im still learning to drive atm this is fine.

its got a dent in front quater panel and few scuffs on front bumper which are easy enough 2 repair. apart from that the car looks like it is in overall good condition and has low miles for the year as you can see in pictures

I will eventually be wanting to mod this car a little, 1st ideas are to take off the black trim down the side of the car and de-badge it. does everyone think that this will be ok, without problems like holes behind the badges and stuff?

havent acctually got the car yet but i go pick it up on tomorow.. im so excited!!

[DING DANG DO]

here are some pics that where on the website

Nice. Here is a list of mods I would do:

Firstly, get it really well cleaned. Polish it and wax it. Clean the interior and get some carpet floor mats, rubber ones are ghey. Then wash it religiously inside and out every week, keep all fluids topped up and so on. Look after it, it will look after you. :D

In terms of modifications;

Get Mk5 6n2 (that is a Mk4, or 6n) rear lights. http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... =10&t=9117
Get clear side repeaters.
Get clear front indicators. http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... =10&t=2148
Get a stubby aerial.
De-badge.
De-bump strip. http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 10&t=36056

Don't bother with any performance mods, IMO. It is a 1L and they will make f**k all difference.

Then there are other mods which you may want to do;

Get a Mk5 steering wheel? http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 10&t=42733
New speakers, head unit, and subwoofer, etc.
Badgeless front grille?
Replace the handbrake? http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 10&t=42369
De-rear wiper?
Footwell lighting?
New pedals, from an Audi TT?
Change the gear stick? http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... f=10&t=319
Replace door pins? http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 10&t=36504
Replace the seats? http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 10&t=42268
Change the instrument cluster? http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 10&t=20428

If you want to spend some dollar, get some lowering springs/coilovers and some nice new alloys. But bear in mind that will mean spending £300 odd on alloyds and around £200 on coilies. It's up to you pal, but enjoy the car! I personally just got some nice wheel trims, as I cannot justify wasting £500 odd which is better to put towards a Polo GTi in the future.

They are great fun, and soon enough you will be looking for a Polo GTi! :D

(And go down to a local scrap yard if you want to replace the damaged body work, any spares, and so on!)

I dont really agree. I say spend what you wish. I have. I love my polo. Yes its my first car, and its also a 1.0L. It had one previous own to me, its a local car and only had 23k on when i got it. Hit 33k yesterday!. Its no different to modding a 1.3 8v (they run 5bhp more) or a 1.4 8v (they run 10bhp more). I agree with the performance side, its pointless. On the underside, i rather go older then buy a 6n2 gti. but thats me.

My mods.

Shaved rear wiper
Shaved side strips
Clear side repeaters
Clear front indecators.
De-badged grill
Coilovers down 120mm.
Ats Classics. 7x13 with 165/55/13 rubber. - use to run ATS Cups.
6n2 Gti splitter.
6n2/mark 4 golf gear stick.
6x9's and upgraded head unit.
stubby aerial
Pressed German style plates.
6k HID Kit.
bonnet Bra.

Alot are on the list already given, Enjoy your polo!

One thing not mentioned, you could upgrade to 16v bumpers. Looks awesome. (Im staying 8v and having my front numberplate recess smoothed)

try ebay...best place to be honest or ring local scrapyard dealers as a lot of polos have clear ones nowadays

but just try ebay and ebay shops for them...be round 25 quid and bit less for clear side repeaters...i still need them

instead of getting 6n2 rear lights just get window/glass tint off of ebay for 8 quid and put 2 coats of it on them so they look sweet but thats just me.

I dont advise self window tinting unless you do it as a job. from what ive seen, its pointless.

As said, ebay, also try club polo in the classified section.

Nah mate, tinting it yourself is fine, i've tinted some old vectra lights i had sitting around (with hopes of selling them), my mate has done his nova lights and my other mate his clio lights, it looks absolutely fine.It makes a change from EVERY polo on the road having mk5 lights, they may as well have come standard on the mk4 aswel.

Take your pick. (Be wary if you want clear or frosted ones. I went for the frosted ones, as the headlights are frosted and so too were my front indicators. Either have all clear or all frosted IMO. :))

They should fit fine, the ad says they won't fit classic models, which have a different shape indicator to hatchback models, so you should be fine.
