Help !! Why is the inside of my car soaked ?

Post by lpmucks »

Hey Guys

I went to amsterdam last week :D and left my car in its normal place for the days I was away but when I came back I found all the passenger side footwell carpets soaked and a small puddle there .!!

My brother reckons the door seels gone and this is what is allowing all the water in ?

Does this sound correct to you guys ?? and if so how much am i looking to get her sorted ??

Check the scuttle. I had the exact same problem last winter. In the scuttle area at the top of your engine bay (where the pollen filter is) there are vents into the car. If the scuttle gets filled with water the water will run through the car into the car. To get rid of the water in the scuttle, there should be holes at each end which channels the water down by the wheel arch and away from the car. In your case these holes are probably blocked. Unblock them and hopefully your problem will be solved!

Funny how I have the same problem.
Except I flooded my boot. My rear washer was blocked and I kept my finger on the washer button hoping to force the blockage free, instead it forced the hose to come off a connector in the side wall where the rear passenger would pull the seat belt down from.
I was told a nice tip from the mechanic who help fix it for me, he recommended to occasionally pop in an anti-limescale tablet into your windscreen washer holder/container.

I had this problem just this week, water in my passenger footwell, but mainly behind the seat, in the rear nearside footwell. I thought it was the scuttle, but it turned out to be the membrane in the door. It was all broken, which they often are in polos as the windows need fixing every 5 minutes, and had sort of folded back and was routing water into the car. As my window seal on the outside isnt as good as it could be, and of course the sheer amount of rain we've had past few weeks, a lot of water was getting in.

The only place i could find anyone detailing this was on a seat forum, but it would seem most cars are susceptible to this door membrane problem.

Hope this helps someone, i know how distressing it is to find puddles of water in your car.
