My 1998 1.0 Polo has a Magneti Marelli distributor fitted. This unit has severe wear of the spindle and needs to be replaced. I've found some affordable complete Bosch pattern distributors on eBay and elsewhere on the net. Needless to say I've been unable to locate the elusive Magneti Marelli item!
What I need to know, is whether the complete Bosch pattern (distributor, rotor arm, cap) unit can be fitted in place of the knackered Magneti Marelli item.

Yes. They are just a different manufacturer. All interchangeable.

Re: Distributor Swap
Many thanks for the information, trawled the net and couldn't find an answer! I knew the rotors are interchangeable by no so the caps. I'll get one off eBay, Bosch pattern complete with rotor and cap at £40.

Re: Distributor Swap
Do you want me to confirm part numbers to be double sure?

Re: Distributor Swap
That would be great if it's no trouble, better safe than sorry. After a few years without problems it looks like this is my year, windscreen in January, oil pump in April, now a distributor to keep then company!

Can you confirm your engine code for me? It'll be on the sticker under the boot floor
