Lack of wipers

Hi new to the group, and new to vw polo, just bought a 2002 banger at a bargain price but no wipers or washers working?
Any obvious suggestions what it may be befi panic and look into cim (vaux term)
Any advice appreciated,
Lovely little car, 1.4, clean outside, immaculate interior, 2 keys on about 90k toms of hist, belt/chain, pupmp , mew exhaust, 3 new tyres and new battery, £150 so dont mind chucking a bit at it if i have to,
So far cost me set of rear springs £57
Going for mot on Thursday, may retire my astra for some much needed maintenance,
