Rattling Vibration Noise

Post by Casbantam »

Hello all,
Can anyone help? I have a 1.2 Polo TSI 2016 43k.

A few weeks ago I started to get a bit of an annoying rattling noise when driving slow. It sounds like plastic rattling coming from under the bonnet somewhere. Like something has worked loose? I started with just a single rattle on startup and then rattling a little as I was driving slowly in 1st gear.

It seems to have got worse since then as it seems more noticeable now more of the time. I was on the motorway yesterday and it did feel like I could feel a bit of vibration in the steering wheel and floor??

It drives fine and has just last month been serviced and passed Mot. Cam belt was changed 12 months ago.

I have hit a couple of Bad potholes recently so wonder if this could be linked?

Any help appreciated thanks.

Could be a thrown wheel weight , or possible alloy damage , these will cause vibration on the steering & also make bits in the dash rattle a little , but could be damaged bushes , link rods, etc , check around all them to rule them out , check for damaged tyres , sometimes hitting potholes can cause bulges & splits on the innerside of tyres n makes vibration .& apart from that check for loose bits under the scuttle panel area ,

Cheers 2fast4ya.

I had 2 new rear tyres fitted last week so will start there I think. Maybe not balanced properly?

It's like a weird noise / vibration not easily noticeable but I can tell that it's there. I can feel the slight vibration through the floor and a little through the pedals and steering wheel.

i hate the balancing weights lol i had new tyres fitted not so long ago & the wheels balanced aswel but they dont stick well or the machanics dont press them on hard enough , i heard a couple of mine come off & flung around wheels never to be seen again .

Worth having a look at the ARB links.

Did this rattle occur immediately after service?
This may sound weird but some time ago, after removing and replacing Air Filter box, I had an annoying plastic rattling noise.
Quickly found lug on Air Filter box rear had not correctly located in rubber grommet.

Just randomly started.

Fortunately I found an earlier post from Bepis who suggested loose caps on top of the shock absorbers. Worked a treat and rattle solved.
