VIN Number not recognised

Post by AlexT99 »

Hello, not sure where to post this so have picked the Chassis board since it's a Chassis number/VIN query.

For some reason my VIN number doesn't seem to be recognised anywhere.

https://parts.vw.com/?utm_source=vwserv ... aign=vws+p
Recall checker - https://www.vw.com/en/recalls.html
VW Manuals - https://userguide.volkswagen.de/public/vin/login/en_GB

I got my car on finance brand new from the dealership in 2017. I imagine databases have been updated since then. I have payed for the car with the last balloon payment not that it's relevant.

Is this normal and what can I do about it?

Decoding the numbers of the VIN the car was manufactured in the factory in Spain. But it's not a spanish import car.

Cheers,
Alex

Thats rather odd. Does your local VW dealership recognise the VIN?

The first two links are US market only, so these will not work in any case.

Is there any UK/EU sites I can check my VIN on that have databases newer than March 2017.

Will have to check with the dealership too but don't quite know how to pose the question to them.

"Are you able to recognise my VIN?"
Seems a bit random. They're going to want context. And there isn't any really. I needed to look for compatible parts and got curious about potential recalls when I stumbled across something suggesting that a new tow eye was needed as the factory fitted might sheer off.
So wanted to check that

And if their systems do or do not then what does that mean for the online systems that say its invalid? I just can't check for recalls? :?

Most things in the UK are done by reg, not vin.

You can check for recalls here. https://www.themotorombudsman.org/vehicle-recalls

Invalid means that the region you are using doesn’t have your vin registered so it won’t search

Have a look for some of the online parts catalogues similar to ETKA which will help you check compatibility.

I used to work for a dealership at one point in time!

Ask your local VW dealership for a printed copy of "CAR DATA" for your car, all they will work from is the UK reg number, and that bunch of sheets of paper will include the VIN as well as "date of build" and all factory production options that were included.

In my world, a very handy bit of info on your car to have if you plan to keep it for a few years.

I've never bothered to use the VIN which should allow for filtering of information, when using any online "hooky" copies of VW Group spares listings - for the reasons given, ie aimed at for use in a non UK sales territory.
